We fell into conversation with everyone, and luckily, the woman who asked me that question moved on and didn’t push for a direct answer. Her question had my mind racing. If I misunderstood that situation back then, what the hell else did I miss?
“You ready to get to cookin', good lookin'?” Nick asked.
I chuckled at his corniness. When I looked up at him, he gave me a chaste kiss on my lips. Before he could pull away fully,I pulled him in for a deeper kiss. One of his brows went up in surprise, but he recovered quickly, leaning into the kiss as his hand went to my jaw. I heard awes coming from the other couples around the table.
I pulled away, and his eyes had a hunger lingering in them. They were becoming a darker blue. I was absolutely speechless. That kiss was as close to perfect as it could get.
Nick tried to clear his throat quietly. “Callie.”
I turned and pulled him away from the table. “Let's go.”
Chapter fourteen
Nick
The cooking class was four couples in total. One was a couple in their seventies that I overheard saying they were here celebrating their fiftieth wedding anniversary. They were telling one of the other couples that they came here on their honeymoon and this year finally made it back.Goals.
One couple was a funny-as-hell younger couple on their first vacation together. Miguel and Scott were their names. They were super friendly and introduced themselves right away. Miguel reminded me of Aubrey a little. He had this light about him just like she does. You could tell Miguel really loved cooking, and Scott was just there for the ride.
The last couple were newlyweds like us.Like us? Why did I think that? News flash. Nick, she isn’t actually your wife.I shook those thoughts from my head. We found out in conversation that their names were Kelley and Matt. They were actually from New York, which isn’t too far from where we live in Connecticut.
“You guys will totally have to come to our house and have dinner sometime. We can show you the real New York,” Kelley suggested.
Callie looked up at me like a kid in a candy store. I nodded my head in agreement.
“Oh, we would love that. New York is beautiful. I've only been there a handful of times. One of my dreams is to go there for the New Year's Rockin' Eve party and see the ball drop,” Callie said excitedly.
“OMG, you have to come.”
This girl was as hyper as a kid on a sugar high. She just said OMG as a word. She seems nice, but she could tone it down a bit in my opinion.
“We definitely will,” I added, pulling Callie into a side hug.
Matt leaned over to the other side of me. “Sorry, she gets a little excited about meeting new people.”
We both laughed. “No worries, our friend Aubrey is the same way. I get it.”
“OMG, bring her too. We will have so much fun,” Kelley said.
The instructor walked in just as Matt and I began to laugh again.
The class flew by quickly. I missed most of it because I wasn’t paying any attention. I was too busy watching Callie work. I got lost for a moment staring at her ass, when Callie’s phone rang, jolting me from my thoughts.
Her eyes grew in what looked like concern, but she looked back at me with ease. “I need to get this; finish mixing this for me?”
She turned toward me, and she had flour on her nose. I tried to wipe it off, but she dodged me. She handed me a spoon thing that had a ton of slots in it. I think it's called a whisk or whip or something like that.
“You okay, baby?” I asked.
“Yeah, I just need to handle this,” she kissed my cheek. “I’ll only be a sec.”
She walked out into the hallway as she took the call.
Callie
“Stop. Calling. Me,” I yelled into the phone.
I didn’t mean to yell it that loud, but he had called and texted me uncontrollably all morning.
