I choked on a sob. “My dad could’ve died.” If I hadn’t gone back with the Angeliminir to get Axton and instead taken my dad to another planet for treatment, none of them could’ve healed him.
“He’ll recover if he stays for treatment. About six months.” Axton placed my hands over his heart. “I’m sorry I could not tell you the truth then, but I can now.” His eyes searched mine. “I am lost without you. I love you. Will you marry me?”
Joy and hope and happiness bloomed inside my chest. “Only if my dad will be well enough to walk me down the aisle.”
“What aisle?” Axton’s mother frowned, looking confused.
“It’s an expression.” I smiled. “Can you wait six months?”
“For you, I will wait a lifetime.”
I kissed him. “Yes, Axton, I will marry you.”
