The Roulex medic raised her scaly eyebrow at me. “You’re not being dragged here?”
I straightened, fighting the urge to tell her off. “There’s no need for me to resist. After all, you are helping me to get the medical treatment my father needs. That’s why I signed up.” I plastered a smile on my face, making sure I made the edges of my eyes crinkle slightly so she might believe my expression was genuine. Maybe those acting classes Vivian had talked me into one summer were finally going to pay off.
“Good. Good.” She prepped the long-ass needle. “Then we can up your dose of aphrodisiac that will mingle more with the one we gave Axton.”
“Both of us?” I squeaked out. It had been hard not to rip Axton’s clothes before. “Wait. I’m sure that we’ll comply with your wishes.” I needed to stall. Something. “Just give me a little more time.”
“We don’t have the luxury.” She filled the syringe with the liquid.
The guards grabbed each of my arms. I twisted, trying to break free, my feet skidding across the stone floor.
“Hold her steady.” She jabbed the needle in my thigh and the room started to spin.
