Knox’s lips on mine were divine. He tasted like sweet and spicy, the perfect mix. My body was already buzzing for his touch and I couldn’t get enough.
His breath came out in ragged gasps and I was too lost in the feeling to care what the hell we were doing or how guilty I’d feel afterward.
But all too soon, he broke off the kiss, leaning his forehead against mine. He was trying to do the right thing. Stay as true as he could to his wife. Yet, here I was acting like a sleaze and tempting him.
“I know, I know… we can’t.” I pushed up. “You don’t have to lecture me.”
He winced. “Actually, I was going to ask if you could move as I can’t feel my legs.”
“Sorry.” I scrambled up. “Thanks for holding me. I was just feeling sorry for myself.”
He stood, stretching with a groan and shaking out his massive wings. His horns cast a shadow along the wall and I shivered, wrapping my arms around myself. Never would have believed that I would’ve fallen so quickly. But I couldn’t give in to my feelings.
I would not be the cause of breaking up his marriage.
The cell door clanked open and I jumped with a gasp. Five Roulex entered with their clubs and whips, but made no effort to use the green beam like before to lock us in place.
“Heard you need a lesson, beast,” it spoke in a thick dialect. “And we installed a translator for your female so she understands every word.”
“Fuck off.” Knox clenched and unclenched his fists. His eyes tracking each of the guards as they spilled into the cell, the door closed behind them.
“What do you want?” I asked, but I backed away. Knox looked ready to pounce and I didn’t want to distract him by getting in the way. Plus, I doubted these guys knew krav maga and better they thought I was helpless and scared. Which I was terrified, but that wasn’t going to stop me from trying to defend myself.
“Ready for your lesson?” the leader snarled. “You evidently don’t know how to fuck a female. We’re here to show you how it’s done.”
My stomach dropped and bile filled the back of my mouth.
Knox roared and dove into the nearest guard. The Roulex plunged a dagger into Knox’s side. Bright blood flowed from the wound. Knox punched him in the head and his neck cracked like he’d given him whiplash.
Another guard unleashed the whip and it cracked in the air, landing across Knox’s chest. Two more guards rushed with their spiked maces.
“No!” I dove forward, crashing into one of them and knocking him down.
With a snarl, the Roulex twisted, its reptilian tail struck me across the gut. The second thrash sent me sailing into the wall. Piercing pain streaked through my back. I crumpled to the stone floor, gasping for air.
Knox let out a battle cry that sounded like it rattled the walls. He snatched up two of the Roulex by their throat and swung them together over and over, smacking them into each other, their heads making a terrible cracking sound. Their lifeless bodies hung in the air and he dropped them.
“Get the trace beam on him, now!” the English speaking Roulex yelled.
He pulled out a com device-looking thing. Instinct told me that they would beat Knox for this. Possibly kill him, and I dove for the guard. Ramming my elbow into his hand, then twisted around, kneeing him in the stomach.
The device clattered to the floor.
But there were two more guards and this one wouldn’t be down for long unless I did something. I leapt on his back, careful of his whipping tail, and wrapped my legs around his neck and squeezed.
His nails clawed through my prison pants, tearing flesh. But I didn’t stop. I didn’t dare. They’d kill me too for this. I just hoped Knox could deal with the other guards before more came.
A Roulex, seeing the danger they were in now, ran for the cell door. His scaled hands shaking as he pushed the key into the lock. Knox snarled, rushing forward. His horns pinning the guard in place. Green blood spurted out two perfect wounds in his chest.
Knox backed away and the body slid off his horns, sinking to the floor with a thud.
The last Roulex yanked me up by my hair. His claws at my throat and I knew that he could take my head off with a few stripes.
Knox whirled. His teeth bared, blood dripping from his horns. His silver eyes glittered in the moonlight. He looked every bit the avenging angel.
But the Roulex didn’t know I had the advantage of surprise. I’d practiced this move a million times in my krav maga class when I had a stalker that wouldn’t leave me alone.
