Epilogue

“Push, Megan,” Levx echoed Dena’s instructions. All three girls were breech but Megan had said she didn’t want a C-section if she could avoid it. Nerves thrashed against his insides. Yet every time she glanced his way, he smiled despite the fact her grip was cutting off the circulation off in his hand. Not to mention her nails piercing into his flesh but he would rip out his spleen if he could ease her pain.

“You push!” She gritted out. “Why did I let you talk me into this?”

“Honey, I wasn’t there, remember?” he said gently.

Her nails dug deeper into his skin as a contraction shoved through her. “Right. Don’t ever get captured again or I might just leave you there next time.”

Of course, she was angry with him. Childbirth wasn’t easy and best he could do was be here for her now. “I’m not going anywhere.”

She screamed, and his heart seized. The dragon inside him wanting to burst free and stop whoever was hurting her.

“Okay, the body’s out, now push as hard as you can for the head.” Dena knelt down at the end of the bed.

“You can do it, love.” He kissed her knuckles.

A hard grunt followed by a plopping sound echoed followed with a loud cry.

“Congratulations, daughter number one is here.”

“Mira,” Megan said awe filling her voice.

“Such a beautiful name,” Isabella came forward with blankets to wrap the baby in. Then she bent down for Megan to kiss Mira’s cheek. She turned to Levx. “You wanna hold her?”

“Of course.” He cradled his daughter to his chest. One of his many miracles. “So gorgeous like your momma.”

She yelled at another contraction that racked Megan. Levx gave Mira to Isabella and crouched by Megan’s side. “C’mon honey.”

The second girl shot out so fast Dena had to make a grab to catch her. “Well, this one is ready for the world,” she said.

“Jazmin.” Levx named her after his grandmother. After she received a kiss from him and Megan, Ash whisked her away to get her cleaned up.

“Okay, last girl.” Dena patted Megan’s knee. “You’re doing great.”

“I-I can’t push anymore, I’m too tired.” Her weak voice shattered Levx’s heart.

“Yes, you can.” He kissed her. “You faced off against Tryns, came after me and the others to rescue us. You’re a warrior queen. Now bring our last warrior princess into this world.”

“It’s too hard.”

“I know it is, sweetie, but you’re amazing. You got this.” He squeezed her hand. “Just pretend I snored really loud and the only way to stop the noise is to push.”

“You do snore.”

“No, I don’t,” he scoffed. “That’s dragon breathing.”

“Whatever it is you’re not allowed to sleep in the room with the girls, it’ll wake them up and scare them.” She frowned, her brow pinching in the start of another contraction.

“Nah, it’ll sooth them to sleep…like red noise.”

“Wha—ah.” She bit down, pushing. After a few seconds, the contraction passed. “Like what now? What’s red noise?”

“You know. Rain, ocean waves, forest sounds—it was on the baby machine we looked at.”

She laughed and shook her head. “White noise.”

“Hey you two, we got a baby in here that needs to come out.” Dena stood and lightly pressed down on Megan’s belly. “When I say, push as hard as you can. Now!”
