She rolls her eyes dramatically, huffing out a breath. “Fine, youdon’tlike him,” she concedes. “Which means you’ll have no problem with us going in and sneaking a little peek at him in the shower, right?”
My heart stutters in my chest, my wolf rearing up in defiance, but I keep a tight grip on my composure. “Don’t,” I reply flatly.
Andie smirks, eyes glittering with mischief. “Why not?”
As if on cue, the locker room door opens, and I whip my head around to see Cam striding out with only a fluffy white towel slung low on his hips. His bronze skin is practically glowing, his monochromatic ink glistening beneath a thin layer of moisture and water dripping from the mess of curls atop his head. The man looks like sex on a stick, and all I can do is stare at him like an idiot with my mouth hanging open, my brain short-circuiting.
The corner of Cam’s mouth lifts as he stares back at me fora long moment, my obvious reaction to him clearly fanning the flames of his fragile ego. He slides his gaze to my friends and he tips his head as he drawls, “Ladies.”
That low, raspy voice of his has a direct line to my pussy. The greedy bitch starts throbbing, heat rising to my cheeks as I get all kinds of flustered. “I told you there were clothes in there, go put some on!” I admonish, scowling at the dripping wet Adonis that just stepped from the locker room.
Goddamn, I forgot how hot he is.
Cam turns to head back in, but not before I clock the smirk on his lips.Asshole. He totally did that on purpose, and I was so caught off guard with my friends out here that I fell for it.
The second the door swings closed behind him, Lo and Andie are on me like flies on shit, tittering about Cam’s appearance.
“Damn, girl,” Lo breathes, followed by a low whistle.
“Damnis right!” Andie laughs. “That towel didn’t hide shit, I could totally see the outline of his…”
Lo slaps a hand over her friend’s mouth before she can finish, staring at me wide-eyed. “Watch your mouth, that’s her mate!”
“So?” Andie giggles. “She doesn’t even like him, right Aves?”
“Well clearly her wolf does,” Lo remarks, gesturing toward me, and it’s then that I realize how close my wolf is to the surface. Her possessive instincts are on overdrive and she’s making a thinly veiled threat to my friends through my irises.Damnit.
“You sure you’re gonna reject that man?” Andie teases like the relentless brat she is.
“Don’t you two have somewhere to be?” I huff, folding my arms over my chest.
“No,” Andie smirks.
I roll my eyes, reaching out to give her a playful shove. “Go!”
The two of them wisely take off, snickering to each other the whole way, while I pivot to face the locker room door and practically glare a hole through it.
My wolf and I need to get on the same damn page. Trouble is, I still need to figure out exactly which page that is.

“For this to work, you need to be honest,” Avery states, setting the ground rules for this interrogation I just agreed to cooperate with. It’s not as if I have much of a choice. For every question I answer about The Guild, she’ll answer one of mine about werewolves, which is the reason I came here in the first place. I need to understand what I am before I can even begin to wrap my mind around what’s next for me, if I have any future at all.
At least she brought a pair of chairs into the cell for us to sit in. Not that I’m complaining about my accommodations, since I’ve been treated far better here than any prisoner of The Guild ever was in our cells, but it’s nice to get up off the ground. Sleeping on it last night sucked. Given my militaristic training, it wasn’t the first time I’ve spent a sleepless night on a hard floor. I put in a few of them outside of Avery’s cell, too.
“I’ll know if you’re lying,” she continues, my gaze dropping to her long tan legs as she crosses one over the other. The tiny cutoffs she’s wearing are so short they’re criminal. “Shifters have a built-in lie detector.”
My eyes ping back up to meet hers. “Bullshit,” I scoff.
“Ah, see?” she remarks, smirking. “Yours is working.”
I roll my eyes. “You think you’re funny?”
“Seems like a waste of a question, but yeah, I do.”
I frown, already knowing that with her, this isn’t going to be just a simple interrogation. No, she’ll poke and taunt and bait me until my head is pounding and I feel like I want to claw out of my own skin.
Shit, is that the wolf inside me?
