I fill Brock and Casey in on what happened with the other wolf- though I leave out the part about me being distracted when he snuck up on me. When we reach the gate of the squad complex, Brock tells Casey to take Vienna in, asking me to hang back. I start to panic a little bit that I’m in trouble, but once the other girls start to walk away, he turns to me with a look of concern.

“How’s the shoulder?” Brock asks. “Be honest.”

I reach up to pull the collar of my t-shirt over to show him. “It’s healing.”

Brock nods. “You’re lucky. Not many trainees could go up against a rogue and live to tell the tale.”

I blow out a breath, nodding back. “Yeah. Wish he didn’t get away, though.”

“We’ll get him. But Gray’s gonna want to hear about this tomorrow. You’re the only one who got a good look at the guy, so you’ll need to fill him in.”

I bite my lip, staring down at the ground. “Yeah, okay.”

Brock nods again. “Go ahead and get some rest, and report to his office after breakfast.”

“Will do.”

I start off in the direction of the barracks, passing Casey as she’s coming back out to join Brock.

“At this rate, you girls will never get a full night of patrol in,” Casey jokes.

“No kidding,” I laugh. “Hate to miss all the excitement.” I toss Casey a wink, then head inside to the barracks.

I change and get ready for bed in the dark, and while my shoulder is stiff, I’m confident that it’ll be good as new by morning. I sure wish my heart would heal as fast.

CHAPTER TWENTY-NINE

Gray

I almost take Brock’s head off when he fills me in on everything that happened last night. I was alerted that the rogue was back right after he was spotted, but he conveniently left out the part about Fallon being attacked. Probably because he knew I’d rage out, and I guess he thought that was better left to after we set a plan in motion to track down the rogue.

We still haven’t found him, which makes matters even worse. That just means the threat’s still out there, lurking, and could reappear at any time. I’ve got my best guys out there trying to track him down, but so far, I haven’t heard anything.

I’m on edge, ready to explode at any moment. We need to get this rogue situation handled, and we aren’t going to do that by sitting around and waiting for him to attack again. If we don’t wind up finding him today, we’ll need to regroup, get a new plan in motion. For that, we’ll need Fallon.

A knock comes at my office door, and I know it’s her before I even call to her to come in. My wolf picked up on her presence as soon as she hit the hallway.

She pulls the door open, looking like a fucking dream in a tight little tank top and those sky blue shorts of hers. I’m instantly hard, my dick punching against my jeans. Her hair’s back in a ponytail as always and she fiddles with the end of it over her shoulder as she stands in the doorway of my office.

“You wanted to see me?”

I push my chair out from my desk, rising to my feet. “Come in,” I say, running a hand through my disheveled hair. I step out from around my desk. “Close the door behind you.”

Fallon’s eyes shoot daggers through me. “You sure that’s a good idea?”

My dick twitches at her suggestion. I don’t respond, just fold my arms across my chest, waiting for her to comply.

“How’s your shoulder?” I ask as Fallon presses the door closed. She spins back around to face me.

“All good.”

“You sure?” I visually examine her bare shoulders, but I don’t see so much as a scratch on either one.

Fallon rolls her eyes. “Youdoknow I’m a shifter, right?”

There’s that smartass attitude again. Guess the rogue attack left both her body and her sarcasm intact.

I come around the front of my desk, leaning back against it and gesturing to a chair in front of me. “Take a seat.”
