“I’m going to bite you.”

“Okay.” His hand on her ass made her more aware of what he was saying.

He flipped over and pressed kisses against one shoulder. She lifted languid eyes to him, wanting to feel him all over her body. She moved her hips against his legs.

“Naughty mate.” Then he struck, biting through muscle and tissue as his teeth met deep inside of her shoulder. She screamed as white-hot pain tore through her body.

Chapter Thirteen

Amelia screamed long and hard. She felt his pointed teeth cut through muscle and connective tissue with the precision of a hot knife through butter. There was no way she was going to survive this. Zylar was a healer; he should have known better. She said her prayers and watched as her short life flashed before her eyes, because yes, it was a thing. Then prepared to meet her maker as she felt something cooling going through her shoulder. It took the pain with it, leaving her feeling shaken and then the pleasure came.

That’s how she knew she was dead. There was no way to feel pleasure with someone’s sharp pointed teeth slicing into her shoulder. Even if that someone is Zylar. When he withdrew his teeth, she looked at her shoulder, expecting to see large bloody wounds. Instead, she watched flesh mend from the inside out.

That should have been enough to mesmerize her for days, but something else demanded her attention. It felt like a second heartbeat was in her chest. The heartbeat was slower than hers. Her heart was beating in time with the hooves of a stallionstalling the race. When her heartbeat stuttered, she panicked. Zylar was there talking to her, making her breathe through what was happening.

“You’re feeling your connection with me as we become one.” There were several sarcastic and cutting comments she wanted to make, but right now she was holding on and hoping to live through this.

“Why?” It was the best she could do, and she wanted to know why he was putting her through this pain.

“It’s how a healer and empath mate.”

“Stupid healer.” It was out before she thought about it, but in the end, she agreed with her word. If he weren’t a healer, she wouldn’t be in pain. His laugh helped. It made her stop struggling internally and breathe with him. The slower her breathing, the better her heart was at following his until it was beating slowly but steadily. She was going to live and her heart beating slower might be a good thing. The jury was out on that one.

“Did you know that was going to happen?”

“On Diza, a healer and their mate link up. Did I know it could happen with a human? No.”

“Were there female healers on Diza?” She knew the women on his planet were killed by the Tan-ge, but she wondered if they were emancipated or resigned to cooking, cleaning, and birthing the babies.

“Some of the best healers were females. I had a colleague who taught me everything I know. She was female.” The pain-filled smile on his face made Amelia reach out to soothe him. She hadn’t wanted to cause him pain.

“Maybe one day you can tell me all about her and we’ll celebrate her life together.”

“Your compassion knows no bounds. Too bad your family can’t see the female I see. They would hurt themselves to take you back. Their loss is my gain.”

“I’m not sure what you see, but who am I to argue with you?”

“Remember that in the morning.” He Ran his hand down her cheek to her neck and then to the shoulder he bit. It was sensitive, but not painful. When he kissed it, she felt connected to him. That kiss went through her, proclaiming that she was his.

“I won’t be in a one-sided relationship.” Her voice was hoarse from denying herself the pleasure of crying out at how good he was making her feel.

“What is this one-sided relationship?” His hands traced their way down to her breasts. Now, he was slowly licking around her nipple like he was tasting her skin and getting to know the hills and the valleys.

“I’m tied to you, but you walk free and can be with anyone you want.” When he took her nipple into his mouth, she couldn’t help but cry out. Her nipple tightened like a bud in his mouth before it flowered, leaving nothing but pleasure and joy in its wake.

“If you think this is the case, bite me.”

What the heck? Amelia couldn’t bite him. She had blunt teeth, not fangs. She was human, not Diza. That didn’t stop her from putting her nose against his shoulder and breathing in his earthly male scent. She laughed because it had to be a Diza scent, but maybe the two planets scented the same. She could scent trees and freshly cut grass with a hint of wildness that came from the sea. His scent was beyond pleasant. She wanted to roll around in it and wear it like perfume.

She lifted her head to kiss him, and before she knew it, she was biting through his shoulder. Her canine teeth had grown. They were sharp and deadly. Her subconscious was trying to understand what was happening while her conscious wasclaiming this male as hers. They could come for him, but they would have to get through her, and she was suddenly dangerous. She withdrew her teeth and licked at his wounds, watching them heal the same way hers did.

“I feel you here.” He took her hand and placed it on his chest. She felt his heartbeat and then caught the faint feel of her heart beating in his chest.

“None of this makes sense.” She couldn’t explain it, but it happened, and she was here to bear witness to the human growing canine teeth and biting the male. If this were on TV, she’d laugh and say what a crazy imagination the writers had. Which reminded her to look around in case she was being punked. No one was here except the two of them.

“Not one-sided,” he growled.

No, it wasn’t. He was with her in this. She didn’t know if she should be happy or sad. Her life wasn’t a bed of roses. She rose up, and by the way, his heart started beating faster. To him, she knew she looked like some ancient primal goddess come to claim what was hers. The joy that spread through her body couldn’t be denied. It was all because of this male lying on the bed beneath her.
