“Look here!” The man suddenly grabbed Lisa by the arm roughly, pulling her to him and shaking her off, with everyone too concentrated on their training to notice what was happening at the back. “Don’t you dare talk to me like that, suka! Not in this world, and not in the next to come. I don’t know what you did to the Boss to make him like that, but it is not going to work on me, you hear? You’re just a suka, a slut, he’s currently obsessed with, and it is going to die down. When that happens, you’ll be nothing. I see it, and Dmitri does, too. So, get the fuck out of my face.”
Lisa had thought about all the possible ways this conversation could go, but she never expected this reaction to be a part of it. Her arm stung from where he gripped her as he let go, and she resisted the urge to groan out in pain. He was a big man compared to Lisa’s frail build, and he had not put any restriction on the use of all his physical strength on her.
“What the fuck did you just do?” A deep-set voice sounded from somewhere behind them, and Lisa looked up to see Nikolai’s red eyes glaring daggers at his man. He looked haunted, about to throw his fist into anything, and strangely, Lisa was scared for the man. She knew he deserved it after what he said to her, but what if he was right?
“Boss!” The man took an involuntary step backward even though Nikolai barely moved an inch.
“Answer the fucking question, Boris. What did you just do?”
“Boss, I’ve been here with you since the very beginning. You know I cannot do anything to harm you.”
“Because you cannot.” Nikolai’s anger was earth shattering, and even the men that were training a minute ago had suddenly fallen silent, watching the scene. No one dared intervene. The only person that could was Dmitri, but Lisa had a feeling that he wasn’t on the grounds. “I won’t ask the question a third time, Boris. What did you call her?”
“Suka. A slut,” Boris muttered, taking another step backward.
Lisa watched Nikolai grow impossibly furious as he folded his fists by his sides. He barely looked at her, but Lisa didn’t need him to, because she saw how much he cared for her in those few minutes. He was lethal, just standing there doing nothing, and one could only guess the havoc he would wreck if he lifted a hand.
His eyes flitted over to Lisa’s arm for a second, zeroing in on the bruise forming on her pale skin from where Boris had gripped her roughly. If Lisa thought Nikolai couldn’t get any angrier, that bruise certainly did the trick.
“You called her a suka,” Nikolai muttered without any bit of emotion, his monstrous side getting to the surface. “Did you start counting your last minutes on earth as you uttered those words?”
“Boss, you can’t do this. She’s just here to distract you. You know that!”
Nobody saw the blow coming, but in one second, Boris was thrown into the field from a single move of Nikolai’s fist. He sauntered over to where Boris landed and picked him up, wrapping his hands around his neck. Boris’ face was smeared with blood, and there was a high chance there were broken bones in his face.
“Say it again.”
“Boss…”
“Fucking say it again!”
Boris spat blood on the ground but kept mute after that. He was scared of what Nikolai would do to him but didn’t want to show it because Lisa was watching.
But Nikolai didn’t care.
“Never again in your miserable life do I want to hear you talk about her like that nor lay a filthy hand on her. Although it’s not a problem, because this ends now. I’m going to cut off your fingers one by one because they should have known better than to touch her. And your teeth are going to be uprooted because your voice irritates me.”
“I’m sorry, Boss!” Boris croaked out as Nikolai threw him to the ground. “I didn’t mean it, I swear.”
“I am not the one you should be apologizing to.”
Boris wasted no time as he scrambled to Lisa’s feet, holding her ankles. “I’m so sorry I hurt you or …”
“Who said you could touch her?”
Boris removed his hands with the speed of light, but it wasn’t fast enough to change Nikolai’s mind. With Lisa watching, he ordered some men to throw Boris into the cell underground. His pleas and screams were the last things Lisa heard as he was dragged along. Boris knew that there was a slim chance of him making it out of there alive.
He should have just kept his mouth shut.
Nikolai didn’t wait for Lisa to say anything, as he just walked away from the field without paying her as much as a glance. It was as if this scene never happened.
Chapter Twenty
Lisa had that dream again, and it felt even more real than the last time. She could hear her assailant very close to her, and her feet refused to move faster. Blood flowed heavily in her head as fear gripped every muscle in her body. Lisa couldn't do anything else as she dropped to the ground, and the man caught up with her, covering her face with a dark cloth. She could almost make out his face.
Almost.
But suddenly, Lisa felt a pair of hands on her shoulders, shaking her vigorously. In a second, her eyes flew open, and she jerked up from the bed, looking around. Her brain reminded her that she was in Nikolai's mansion, but that only made her jump again as she looked at the space beside her on the bed.
