Page 18 of Claiming Her Alpha

“Not at all.”

“Okay.”

He took her hand and pulled her to a clearing that was covered in soft moss. He kneeled down before her and encouraged her to do the same. With a gentle kiss to her forehead, he tried to remember what his mom had told him on his first shift–and what he knew Alpha Vallerian told his young wolves.

“Close your eyes.”

She obeyed and squeezed his hand tighter.

“Listen to your wolf. Listen to her emotions, her needs.”

He gave her a few moments as she retreated to get to know her wolf.

“Now, listen to your surroundings. Feel the wind play with your ears. Hear the leaves above you and the birds surrounding you.”

He watched as she concentrated on her surroundings as well as his words.

“Now take a deep breath. Fill your wolf’s lungs with air and take in the scents of your surroundings. Smell the moss beneath your knees and flowers around you.”

She took a long deep breath, her grip on his hand loosening.

“Breathe as deeply as you can. Smell the animals that have crossed this path.”

She took another breath in, then let it out.

“Now feel the wind move through your fur. Feel the air tickle youand your tail wag as a breeze surrounds you.”

Her body began to blur, her lips twitching into a smile as she imagined the wind whooshing through her fur.

“Now feel the moss beneath your paws. Feel it give under your weight, your sharp claws scraping through the dirt beneath you.”

He watched as her body shifted and the first bones cracked. He stood and took a step back, giving her enough space to shift.

“Feel your large heart pump your blood through your veins. Feel your muscles grow as your wolf form takes over.”

She leaned forward onto her hands, fingers digging into the earth as more bones splintered and joints popped. Her clothes slowly ripped as her body transformed into the large grey wolf from just a few hours ago. It took her longer than what he’d expected to fully shift, but maybe that was just him worrying about her pain. He watched as her hands turned into paws, her shoulders grew wider, and her face longer. Though it was slow, she didn’t seem to be suffering.

Gabriel stepped up next to him, watching as Kendra’s wolf emerged. ‘Stop looking so worried. You did good. She and her wolf just need time.’

‘Since when do you dish out compliments?’

The beta simply shrugged his shoulders.

Ryker’s wolf eagerly watched on, heart swelling with pride. His wolf liked everything about his mate, especially how much of an alpha she was. Ryker would’ve thought that his wolf would want to be the biggest and baddest in a relationship, but surprisingly he seemed to enjoy seeing his mate’s strength. Ryker had a feeling that his wolf wouldn’t even mind submitting to her, even though she was a female wolf.

Kendra’s eyes only opened once she’d fully shifted. At first, she looked a little lost. Her eyes searched the clearing as she wobbled a little on her massive paws.

Ryker slowly stepped closer, unable to hide his pride. “Welcome, little wolf.”

Somewhere behind him Sean snorted. “Little…” he repeated sarcastically.

Kendra ignored him and leaned down, nudging Ryker with her wet nose.

He smiled up into her ocean blue eyes. “You look gorgeous.”

She softly nuzzled him again.

“Ready to stretch those new muscles?”
