Page 25 of Alpha Awakening

“You’re going to be fine. I don’t believe it’s anything formal. I think Alpha Raymond is curious just like Ann’s friends.”

“He’s still an alpha though.”

“I don’t think he’s going to bite your head off.”

His words made her giggle and seemed to lighten her mood slightly. Walking into the house, she went through their bags on the couch that they still hadn’t unpacked.

“I need to take a quick shower.”

“Take your time.”

As she turned on the shower, he looked through his clothes as well. To match her dress, he chose jeans and a blue, button-up shirt. Though he tried to be calm around her, he couldn’t help but feel anxious himself. He’d never been invited to an alpha’s house and hadn’t participated in any of the alpha meetings his father had hosted over the years. This was his first and he wasn’t sure how to behave.

He wasn’t his father’s heir, which didn’t really make him alpha, though his heritage did make him such. It was confusing. Even when he’d talked to Beta Fallon, he’d felt his wolf look down on him, feeling superior to the man before him. He wasn’t used to it, but he’d quite enjoyed the feeling. He’d never spoken to anyone in that sense, because at home he wasn’t in a position to do so.

A part of him that he’d buried deep down was looking forward to the dinner, wanting to experience how it felt like to be a real alpha’s heir. His wolf hummed with excitement in the back of his mind, pacing impatiently as he also looked forward to this little glimpse of what his life could’ve been.

Niev turned off the water, pulling him out of these dangerous thoughts. His feet moved of their own volition and stepped through the bathroom door. Standing with her back toward him, she hid her delicious body beneath a towel, which he swiftly reached for, knocking it to the floor.

“Mhm…” he hummed as she turned toward him.

She looked breathtaking as always. Her breasts grew larger with each day, preparing for the twin’s arrival, while her stomach grew as her womb nourished his children. Her heartbeat sped up as his gaze traveled over her body. Stretching to her tiptoes, she reached for his neck and pulled his face toward hers. Needily, she pressed her lips to his, her tongue eagerly pushing past them. With one hand gripping her hair, his other cupped her breast, gently running his thumb over her hardening nipple.

He swallowed a moan of hers as his hand moved to grip the other, mimicking his caress. He knew the strain that the pregnancy put on her, and how much she was adjusting to her new body. He wanted her to know that she was beautiful–no matter what. He loved every growing inch of her. Not only that, but he was forever grateful for the incredible sacrifice she was giving him.

Breathlessly, she pulled back and smiled up at him. “Thank you.”

“Sometimes I forget that you can sense my thoughts.” He leaned down and kissed her forehead. “I know this pregnancy is still an adjustment for you and I want you to know that I’m proud and thankful for all you are doing for me and the girls.”

A knock on the door made them both look up. He gave her another quick kiss on the forehead and walked to the door. Before he opened it, he could already scent Beta Fallon. He opened the door, trying to banish his wolf to the back corner of his mind.

“Beta Fallon, we were just getting ready.”

“I do apologize, but I never specified where Alpha Raymond lives. I thought it would be rude to have you wander around the village in search of it.”

“Come in. Niev will be ready in a few moments.”

He stepped inside and leisurely leaned against the wall next to the door while Blake returned to the bathroom. Niev had already slipped into her dress and was braiding her hair over her shoulder.

He watched as she finished and stepped closer, pressing a kiss on her shoulder. “You look gorgeous.”

“You look quite handsome yourself.” She turned and kissed his cheek before stepping out and walking into the living room. “I’m sorry, Beta Fallon.”

“There is no need to apologize. I intruded.”

Niev chuckled and bent down searching through the bags. “Blake, did we pack my sandals? I can't remember.”

“Sit, beautiful. I’ll grab them for you.”

He quickly searched the bag and kneeled before her on the floor. Swiftly and effortlessly, he slipped them onto her feet and tightened the buckle around her ankle.

“Oh, now I feel like Cinderella,” Niev laughed with a bright smile on her face.

Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Beta Fallon trying to suppress a grin, though his eyes said it all. Blake helped Niev to her feet, and they followed Beta Fallon out into the evening light.

“Beta Fallon, do you also hold all your celebrations by the Goddess’ Tree, like we do?” Niev asked shyly.

“Yes, we do.”
