His words hang heavy in the air, leaving me feeling a mixture of confusion and hurt. “What is it?”
He takes a deep breath, as if trying to gather his thoughts. “I want to find a scent match. I can’t live this lie any longer.”
My heart breaks a little.
I don’t smell Garrett, but I thought he’d know I was his by my perfume. I lift my wrist—nothing other than the perfume I sprayed earlier today.
I nod slowly, my mind quickly piecing together all the times he’s been cold to me.
From not wanting me to console him like an omega can, to shutting me out of his life—his bedroom.
“I know I don’t have a scent, but I thought you loved me, for me.”
He closes his eyes and sighs. “I love you for you, but you know, you’re not my future.” Garrett’s voice is low as uneasiness coats his words. “You never were.”
“But you bought me. You must smell me.” I clench my hands into fists to stop me from reaching out and begging him.
He shakes his head. “I don’t, and I know you don’t smell me.”
“It’ll come back. My scent.” Tears roll down my cheeks as he pulls a pile of papers from his drawer.
“If I was your scent match, I’d know. Despite your lack of a scent.”
I drop my head and stare at the floor.
“Sign this NDA agreement, and you can walk away with five million dollars. You’ll be free,” he says. His voice is suddenly chilled, like he wants this over with as soon as possible.
“Just like that?” I stare at him, my eyes misted with tears. “It’s over. You’re letting me, an omega go? You’re rejecting me?”
I’m still a fucking omega.
He should be on his knees for me.
He doesn’t respond as I stare at the NDA on his desk before glancing at him, still clutching the pink diamond in his hand.
That’s why he’s been looking at it so much, wondering if I was the omega who would wear his expensive jewel.
I’m not.
Every vein in my body pulsates with simmering rage. “If we’re over, I want ten million dollars.”
He glares at me.
When I nonchalantly shrug my shoulders, he responds by arching an eyebrow.
Well fuck you, Garrett.
I now know he wants me kept as his dirty little secret and for that, he can pay.
“Transfer it now, and I’ll never mention your name ever again. I’ll never see you ever again.”
“Just like your stepfather,” he states. “Money is your driving force.”
I laugh at the ridiculousness of his words.
Shaking my head, I say, “I’ve never had money for it to be my driver, Garrett. But my past has hardened me. Being kidnapped changed me, and if I wasn’t rescued, the pack would have used me as they wished. And then my stepfather sold me to you, and now you’ve made a fool out of me.” I breathe, shoulders back as I steel myself. “So I want ten million. I’m going to use your money to make sure no alpha will ever get the chance to make my life hell again.”
