Wordlessly, Lucca extends a hand, setting it to my shoulder as Ariana rises from the bed. Though everything has been so lovely this past week as we recovered from re-taking the Dark Haven of Florence, making the new United Haven of Florence, something inside me feels exhausted.
We won against the Vampire Council of Rome with their attack on the Summers household in the human realm. We also won my Hotel and Dark Haven back, despite the Council’s support of my nemesis Florian Delano taking everything from me. We even won back my associate Dark Haven at Pisa, and gained an entirely new city of Vampires when we annexed Florian’s Dark Haven at Monaco, after I killed Florian.
That’s not entirely true; Arturos killed Florian, in that final moment I held Florian trapped by my power. As ever, my beloved friend knew when someone was my true enemy, not giving me even a single moment to be lenient. Arturos knew all my enemies and protected me from them.
Save for one—the Gold Eyes itself.
A Vampire Revenant of incredible power, once a godlike creature called the Ascendant Staphylogenes and father to the Wanderer, the Gold Eyes became dark long ago, tricking and terrorizing everyone he could to his will, including Arturos. Arturos defied him by breaking the bonds the Gold Eyes had inside him, which enslaved my dear friend to that fiend’s will.
For his defiance, Staphylogenes slew Arturos in his devastating might.
All that is behind us now, except that my beloveds and I still need to break free of the Gold Eyes’ terrible power invested in our magic. I sigh as Lucca and Ariana come to me; I let their hands caress me in the night.
I remind myself that we’ve won, and everything has been calm this past week since we beat the Council of Rome at their own game. Though they threatened retribution, nothing has come of it yet.
One week of relative peace, finally.
Though I have so many more things I’m tempted to worry about, I let my worries go now as my lovers come to me. Ariana steps to my front as she wraps her arms around me, while Lucca steps to my back.
I know I’m supported by them. They have my back and they always will, even having brought me back to sanity with their love when I became a mad Revenant like the Gold Eyes.
They love me; I used to doubt it, but I know it now as I let them come close. And I love them back; as Lucca bites his wrist with his small Fae-fangs, then lifts it up before my mouth, I know they will always support me.
No matter what madness I engage in next.
“Drink, Quinn. Soothe your hunger and enjoy it.” Lucca holds his wrist so temptingly before my mouth.
Glancing at him to make sure it’s what he wants, I lift his wrist reverently to my mouth before descending to drink. Lucca’s blood is like an aphrodisiac to me now, searing with light, lust, and power. I can’t get enough of it suddenly, as I crush his wrist to my mouth.
Needing more, and more—and more.
My sharp Vampire-esque fangs grow from my mouth now, puncturing Lucca, and he gives a small grunt. I’m not a true Vampire, not like I once thought; I now know I’m a Dark Fae of the Mentale variety, which is akin to a Vampire, though still Fae.
A deep part of me still feels very much like a Vampire, though. My Night energy strengthens as I take Lucca’s blood, drinking it down in a sweet, hot rush.
Lucca breathes hard as we all resonate with our trio’s powerful Dark Fae magic, sparked by my dark lust. As Ariana heaves a deep breath to our building eros, her sigh on my neck feels intoxicating.
Removing Lucca’s wrist from my mouth, I turn my head, whispering my lips over her ear. She knows what I want; with a sweet moan, Ariana tips her head to give me access.
I bite, gentle but firm, into her neck.
She gasps as I take her—not from pain, but from pleasure. Unlike with Lucca, I remember to flood my aura through her with my bite now, sending my Night magic into her to give her heat, rather than have her feel agony from my fangs in her flesh.
Ariana gasps, pressing into me now as I wrap my arms around her. Her balanced Animante Dark Fae energy flows through me with her blood, as dark rainbows with silver and gold flashes surge from her.
My darkfire energy rushes out after hers, seething through the moonlight like black smoke, as crimson and gold flame burns through it. Lucca’s searing, bright rainbows with flashes of white and sky-blue blaze from him also, as he shares in our ecstasy.
A towering wave of magic flares through us now, as Lucca’s bright rainbows twist into my dark flames, and Ariana’s shadow rainbows simmer through it all.
As we sing suddenly, with the Music of the Spheres.
It leaves us. After only a brief joy of the Music ringing through all our hearts, it departs. Though it surged through us so powerfully just a moment before, unifying our energies, we can’t sustain it.
We’ve made powerful magic with it in the past, banishing the Vampire Council’s most elite forces from these very halls. But we can’t seem to do it anymore. Though the Music is still with us, it’s a tempered thing when we’re not in dire need.
Nothing we can consciously control as it simmers away now—lost.
“That was beautiful.” Ariana sighs as my fangs slip from her neck. Using a vial of the Hotel’s unguent that heals both Vampire and Fae bites, I dab some on her. She turns her back to me and cuddles into me now, close.
