Of course, they are.
A woman steps forward, extending her hand. "Hi, I’m Sarah, I'm the project manager. We’ll be working closely on this project together."
I force myself to break eye contact with Liam and Alex and take Sarah’s hand. "Nice to meet you, Sarah. I’m Bianca Preston."
Her handshake is firm, professional. Just like mine should be. I give her a warm smile, trying to ground myself in this moment. "I’m really looking forward to collaborating with you."
I breathe in, forcing my expression to remain neutral. “Nice to meet you both,” I say, extending my hand towards Liam first.
He hesitates, just for a split second, before his large hand engulfs mine in a firm shake. His grip is steady, but I can feel the tension. “Liam Olsen,” he says, his voice colder than I remember. He pulls his hand back quickly, almost like my touch burned him.
“Alex Murphy,” Alex says cooly as he takes my hand next. His shake is warmer than Liam’s, but still detached. “Pleasure to meet you, Bianca.”
I give him a polite nod, ignoring the fluttering of my heart. “The pleasure is mine.”
Memories from college flood my mind. It's been six years and I can almost hear Liam’s laughter mixed with Alex’s playful teasing. But I shove those memories back where they belong—buried deep.
Rebecca continues with the introductions, outlining the project details and assigning tasks. I nod along, focusing on her words and not on the piercing blue eyes that seem to be drilling into me from across the table.
Once she’s done, we all take our seats. I end up directly across from Liam and Alex—of course.
Rebecca motions towards me. “Bianca will be leading the interior design aspect of this project. She’s one of our best. But before she begins, I’ll start with a little introduction to what we’ve been working on.”
I nod at Rebecca, my gratitude genuine, as she starts addressing the room.
I can't help the excitement and nerves bubbling up inside me. Leading the interior design for this project is a big deal, and I want to prove myself. A glance at Liam and Alex shows both of them watching me closely.
As her words fade, my mind drifts back to the night we all met, to the wild party where it all began. It’s like flipping through an old photo album, each image sharper than the last.
I remember stepping into that crowded room, music pulsing through the air like a heartbeat. It was a wild party, people were dancing and laughing, and they spread from corner to corner. I scanned the crowd and spotted them—Liam with his bright blue eyes, Alex with that goofy smile, and James lurking in the background, keeping to himself but still captivating.
That night spun out of control in the best way possible. Alex had swaggered over first, charm radiating from him like heat from a fire.
“Hey there,” he said, leaning closer than necessary. “Can I get you a drink?”
“Sure,” I replied, raising an eyebrow. “What are you having?”
“Something strong enough to make this party worth it.” He grinned.
Intrigued, I shrugged. "I'll have what you're having," I said, shooting him a playful smile.
Before I knew it, they were all around me—three handsome guys and one adventurous girl ready to let loose. The drinks flowed freely; laughter and flirtation hung thick in the air as we danced like no one was watching.
The details blur as shots turned into deep conversations, laughter echoed against walls plastered with art—a strange mix of vibrant colors mirroring our emotions. But what sticks is that moment when Alex leaned in closer during a particularly loud song and whispered something that sent shivers through my body.
The rest of the night is a beautiful chaos—a whirlwind of passion and spontaneity. We ended up in a private corner of that crowded apartment, breathless and reckless under dim lighting. The heat between us sparked wild decisions.
And just like that—one impulsive night led to something unforgettable: tangled limbs and stolen kisses shared between us four in a random bedroom. It was electric as we pushed boundaries without thought.
How could I forget that San Diego is where the guys grew up? Their plan was always to come back here. It's been so long since I thought of them that it never even crossed my mind when I took the job.
I shift in my seat, my thoughts keep drifting back to that night, the way our bodies moved together, and how we laughed until we couldn't breathe.
I glance up, catching Liam’s eyes again. There’s a storm brewing there, anger mixed with something else—hurt, maybe? I broke more than just a promise when I left; I shattered something fragile between us.
Liam’s gaze never wavers from me, his jaw still set in that stubborn line. Alex, on the other hand, sits back in his chair, his expression neutral, apathetic even.
I shake myself from the memories, grounding myself back in the conference room. Seeing Liam and Alex is unexpected, but even more than that is why is it just them two? Why isn’t James here?
