I try thinking of why this is a bad idea, and although there are a lot of them, the voice inside my head keeps saying that Aiden is worth the risk. When we finally break apart, I take a second just to try to remember this moment. It still feels a little surreal.

He moves from the floor to the spot next to me on the couch. Before we go any further, I figure maybe we could talk a little more.

Deciding to give him a little shit, I say, “Aiden, there’s something I need to tell you.”

“While you and I were apart, I was…lonely. And I found someone to keep me company while I was alone.”

His face drops a little, but he doesn’t say anything. I stand up off the couch and walk into the bedroom. When I come back, I set Romeo down between us.

“This is Romeo,” I say. “He might just take your place as the boss around here.”

His laugh echoes off my apartment walls. “You got a dog?”

“Veronica got him for me.”

He nods. “I need to confess something too, Romy.”

Now, it’s my face that drops.

“Veronica came to see me.”

“What?”

“She came to see me to tell me how stupid she thought that we were both being. Romy, I wanted to come see you before now, but I didn’t think that’s what you wanted, so I stayed away. Veronica is the one who convinced me to give it one more time.” He says it like he’s worried any of that will change my mind.

“Aiden, I don’t care what brought you here—as long as you’re here now.”

That sexy smile is back on his face, and he kisses me again. This time, he wastes no time in pulling me into his arms and carrying me into the bedroom.

Once we are in there, we practically rip each other’s clothes off. As much as I want to take our time and savor this, there’s no denying that both of us need this right now.

When Aiden abruptly stops, I look up at him, wondering if he finished a little sooner than expected. But I don’t think that’s the case.

As I stick him in, I say, “Sorry, pup. Right now, he’s the Boss Man.”
