“I need to show you something, but you have to promise not to be mad at me.”
The statement itself made me kind of mad, but I agreed, nevertheless.
She pulled an envelope out of her bag that had Sam’s handwriting on it.
“What’s this?”
“Just read it.”
I walked over to a nearby park bench and sat down, ripping the envelope open as fast as I could.
Ty,
I don’t know if I will see you again or not, so I decided to write this to you to explain my actions. I’m sure you’re upset and confused right now, but I promise it’s all about to make sense.
The James situation got a lot worse than I expressed to you. Turns out James got a job with the FBI…as an agent…able to pull some strings…do you see where I’m going with this? The FBI agent who showed up at our house WAS James. He changed his name and all of his information, so no one could find him.
I wanted to tell you so fucking bad, but he threatened you and your family, and my family, and even Jacinda and her kids. He was watching, Ty. He was watching all of us.
His texts didn’t stop. He was following me constantly, sending pictures and threats. But I came up with a plan to stop him.
For that plan to work though, I had to get you out of town for the weekend. I’m sorry I didn’t tell you, but it had to look real. It couldn’t look like there was anything suspicious about it, or he would have known.
I asked Tess for help. She moved up the meeting with Anton as soon as she could and offered to go with you and give you this letter…in case I didn’t make it.
I asked Emily for help in getting me a burner phone and helping me to contact the detective without James finding out.
I asked Gabe for help in making sure Mason was okay and making sure things went according to plan.
And finally, I asked Detective Macintosh for help. He believed my story straight away, and we came up with a plan to bring James down.
If I don’t make it past tonight, I need you to know a few things. I’m in love with you, Tyler Wendell. I want to spend the rest of my life with you. I want to marry you and one day, have your babies. I know I have lied and deceived you, but believe me when I say, it will be the last time.
James isn’t what has gotten to me these last few months. It’s been keeping secrets from you. It has ripped me apart from the inside out, and I don’t intend on keeping things from you ever again.
You helped me find myself again, and I thank you so much for that. I promise to spend every moment of our lives together showing you all the same love you have shown me.
I know you’re mad, and I’m sorry. Please don’t be mad at Tess. I begged her to help, and she protested quite a bit.
I love you more than I ever thought I could love anything. Please come home to me, and hopefully, I’ll be there waiting.

My mind literally couldn’t process what I just read. None of it made any sense. My head began to spin, and I stood up, running to the nearest trash can, throwing up the contents of my stomach.
When I was finished, I looked at Tess, “What the fuck did Sam do?”
She walked towards me. “Honestly, I don’t know what her entire plan was. She called me and asked if we could talk. She told me her whole story, Ty.”
“She told you everything?”
She nodded. “And when someone tells you a story like that, you listen, and then, you do anything you can to help.”
“So, did you set this meeting up just to get me out of the house?”
She shook her head. “No. Anton wanted to meet you already. I just set the meeting to be a little sooner than expected. He welcomed the change since he was so excited about the prospect of working together.”
I whispered, “She didn’t tell me, Tess. She didn’t tell me any of it. She’s supposed to love me.”
