I couldn’t stop smiling as I picked up the tickets once more, examining them like they were pure gold.
She chimed in with, “I know you’re from New York, but you love Boston too. This way, you can root for both teams.”
Growing up, I was always a Knicks fan. I loved New York and everything that went along with it, but I couldn’t deny Boston had its advantages.
While taking her into my arms, I said, “I think we will root for Boston tonight.”
Her grin echoed mine.
“Now, Mr. Wendell, I have some ground rules for today and tonight.”
My eyebrows raised in curiosity. “I’m listening.”
“You have to let me take the lead. That means no trying to control the situation and no trying to change or add plans.”
I nodded, “Okay, but…”
“No buts, and I’m not finished. That also means your wallet stays in your pocket. Everything tonight is my treat,” she said while pointing to herself.
I wondered what she had up her sleeve to be able to afford all of her big plans, but the determined look on her face told me I’d better not ask.
“Okay, I promise.”
She smiled. “Now, take me back to bed, Trust Fund.
