Page 28 of A Constant Surprise

Hey Tyler, want to know why I am such a fucked up emotional mess? Well, today is your lucky day!

No. Probably not like that.

When I was out of the shower and dressed, I heard the doorbell ring. I assumed it was Ted, my tutoring student, so I jogged downstairs to answer it.

When I pulled back the door though, it wasn’t long and gangly Ted. No, it was a woman. A very tall, very curvy woman.

She looked like a damn movie star with her long black loose curls hanging down past her enormous breasts. Her small waist with what appeared to be a tight, toned ass.

She had golden brown skin and sexy, brown bedroom eyes and large pouty red lips.

I felt like a troll. A tiny, pale, small-chested troll.

“Can I help you?” I managed to bite out.

“Hi, I’m looking for Tyler.”

Yeah. Got that part, lady.

Her accent was thick and sounded maybe Brazilian.

I heard footsteps walking up behind me and Tyler’s voice echoed through the foyer.

“Marisol?”

I HAVE to stop opening the door.

Chapter 14 - Tyler

“Marisol, what the fuck are you doing here?”

I sat across the desk in my office from the leggy bombshell. I really had no desire to be alone with this woman, but Sam’s tutoring appointment had arrived five seconds after Marisol, and I didn’t want to have this conversation in front of an audience.

“I came to see you.” Her accent was thick and rolled off her tongue in a way that used to drive me absolutely insane.

“Well, here I am. Now what do you want?”

“I’ve missed you,” she purred.

“That’s great. You’re still not answering my question.” My patience was growing thin.

“I saw Tess the other day, and I haven’t been able to stop thinking about you since. Honestly, I haven’t been able to stop thinking of you since we broke up.”

Her words hit me like a fucking freight train. I didn’t need this now. I didn’t need her waltzing back into my life ready to just derail everything.

“You didn’t miss me when you fucked Adam behind my back.” I let the words drip off my lips like venom.

Her eyes dropped to the floor. “I know. I know I hurt you. But you know neither of us were ready to start the rest of our lives. I’ve had a lot of time to think, and I realize that maybe we could try to give this another shot. We are both older. Both wiser. We could really commit to each other this time.”

“I was committed, Mer. I was in it, damnit! I would have fucking married you! But instead of talking to me and saying you needed a little time, you fucked my best friend!”

Rage flowed through my veins like fire. But I tried to calm down. No matter how angry I was, I knew screaming at her wasn’t going to solve anything.

“I said I couldn’t do it anymore, and instead of trying to get me back, you ran off to Paris. You didn’t call. You didn’t text. You didn’t care.”

Now, she began to grow defensive. “You didn’t come after me either, Tyler. We both gave up. I admit what I did was awful, and I shouldn’t have run. But we both know we weren’t ready for the rest of our lives to start. We weren’t ready to get married. I left for Paris to try to clear my head and figure things out.”

“And have you figured things out, Marisol?” My voice was now back down to a normal volume.
