Silas shakes his head. “Don’t worry about being rude. If you need rest, then rest.”
I smile, looking between the two of them. I didn’t realize that I had started to care for them as much as I do. Like two protective brothers I never had and didn’t know I wanted or needed. “You guys worry too much.”
“Apparently, we don’t worry enough, considering you got stabbed and all,” Jax says.
I snort out a laugh. “You sound like the guys now.”
“With good reason, apparently,” Silas grunts out.
I grin as I snuggle down into the couch, surrounded by the warmth of my men. Surrounded by my family.
Chapter Twenty-Nine
Jane
It’s been a week since I was stabbed, and my side is healing nicely. I’m still sore, but I’m moving around much better than I was. The guys are still being a bit overprotective, but I’m going along with it for now. I know I went through a traumatic event, not only just for myself but for them as well. I can only imagine what it would be like to see the person you love bleeding out and slowly dying.
I sigh as I make my way down the stairs. Zane is the only one home with me today because the others had to do some stuff for work. I have to admit; I do not miss the meetings.
For the last few days, I’ve been craving something sweet, but the guys don’t keep many sweets in the house. Heading toward the kitchen, I start my search for the ingredients I will need to make chocolate chip cookies. Humming to myself, I grin as I gather everything. Sweet!
I should have an hour or so before Zane will be looking for me after his workout, so I can make the cookies and sit down while they bake. That way, he can’t be upset. I only have a few more ingredients to mix in when Zane walks in earlier than I expected. Well . . . damn.
“What are you doing up?” he asks with a growl.
I roll my eyes as I mix in the last few ingredients. Popping a chocolate chip in my mouth, I say, “I’m making cookies.”
Coming to stand in front of me, he says, “I can see you’re making cookies, but that doesn’t answer the question as to why you are up?”
I roll my eyes again. “I wanted something sweet, and there wasn’t anything in the house that fit that description. I’m making some cookies to fix my need for something sweet.” I hold up the bowl of cookie dough as if to emphasize my point.
“I could have made them!” he argues.
I snort out a laugh. “You have no idea how to make cookies, Zane.”
“I would have figured it out. You could have been resting while I was making them. All you had to do was ask,” he grumbles.
Feeling a spark of irritation, I snap, “I’m not a delicate flower, Zane. I can make cookies!”
Looking up from my cookie-making, I find him frowning. Then the frown turns to a sneer as he yells, “You should be resting! You almost fucking died, Sunshine!”
Trying to keep my anger under control, I take a deep breath. Puffing out a gust of air, I reply, “I know, Zane, but I feel better. I can’t just lie around anymore; I’m going crazy.”
Zane runs a frustrated hand through his hair. “Just fucking rest, woman! I don’t care if it's making you crazy!”
I stop mixing and point my spatula at him, glaring up at him as I yell back, “I’m fucking Persephone! I’m not a wilting flower, you overbearing asshole!”
His eyes narrow on me as he growls out, “I’m Thanatos! Of course, I’m a fucking asshole and overbearing. I’m overbearing because my fucking Sunshine will not rest after almost dying!” His chest is heaving from emotion as his eyes pierce mine.
Standing a little taller, I reply, “And I’m your fucking Queen. I say I’m fine, so settle, or else.”
He sneers as he spits out, “Or else what, my Queen?”
I smirk as I walk around the counter so I’m in front of him. What he doesn’t know is that I have an egg hidden behind my back. I arch a brow as I say, “Or else this.” His brows arch, and I swing my arm out from behind me and smash the egg on top of his head.
His eyes widen as the gooey egg runs down his dark-brown hair, making its way into the bun on the top of his head from working out. My eyes widen as well because, holy shit, I actually did it.
“Did you really just smash an egg onto my head, Sunshine?” he asks with a bit of surprise hinting in his tone.
