Again.

The RV pulled out of the lot, and I chuckled because he’d kept his word and left the two girls who had to use the bathroom. It would be fun to have a great group of friends like that, but boy were they packed like sardines in that RV. I hoped they all liked each other enough.

My gaze landed on the counter.

Dag’s black phone sat there staring at me.

Oh, holy moly.

He was going to come back.

I was going to see him again.

Two

Dagger

Fionna. The last RV park we were at was in the middle of nowhere just like this one and there had been an older woman with two birds manning the check-in counter. Fionna was young, cute and a brief, unexpected reprieve from my seven friends who were starting to drive me nuts.

That wasn’t fair. They all weren’t making me crazy. Jeff and his girlfriend, Maria, were easy at making themselves scarce—wandering off alone all of the time. Drake and Charlie pretty much did the same, so it really wasn’t all seven of my road trip companions that were driving me crazy.

“I hooked up the water and sewer. We’re good,” Rob yelled.

He came around to the side of the RV where I was unloading our firewood and grill. It was my turn to cook tonight, and I was grilling surf and turf, and I was making scrambled cake for dessert. “Sweet.”

“Hey Dag, did you get the wi-fi code? Maddie can’t find it. There’s like, zero service out here.”

No shit. “It’s inside on that little paper thing. In the middle of the dash.”

My own phone service was—I patted my jeans. Fuck. Where was my phone? I shut the lower compartment and went back to the driver’s seat. I didn’t lose it, did I? My wallet was in my back pocket, and I was sure I had it with me at check in.

Fionna.

I’d set it on her counter. I grinned.

This wasn’t a bad thing.

“I left my phone at the office. I’ll be back.”

Drake and Jeff were unloading a few extra chairs even though our site had a picnic table. I didn’t see Maddie and Kelly had already gone back inside. Maria and Charlie hadn’t walked back yet. This was freaking great. I was alone and could talk to Fionna without an audience.

A two-week trip with the two couples wasn’t bad, but Maddie and Kelly were annoying as fuck. Especially because it was almost like I was paired with Maddie. Kelly and Rob had something going on even though Kelly still seemed to flirt with me. And I was not attracted to Maddie. Talk about pretentious. How about getting your ass out of the RV and seeing if anyone needs help setting up camp?

The quietness of the park settled my nerves. The sound of the gravel crunched under my feet, and I seriously couldn’t wait to head home tomorrow and sleep in my own bed.

Ahead of me, Maria and Charlie were reading some sign. Maria spotted me. “Where you going?”

“Left my phone when we checked in.”

“We’re going to get everything ready for you for dinner.”

I nodded and made my way to the office. The sign on the door said she was closed but I pulled on the handle anyway. It swung open effortlessly and Fionna met my gaze. She smiled so wide like she was genuinely happy to see me.

She held my phone up. “I might have tried to open it and snoop, hoping for some naughty selfies, but I couldn’t get it unlocked.”

I laughed. “Give me your number and I’ll send you one tonight.”

A blush crept across her cheeks. “Sure, you will. But I’ll give you my number just in case.”
