One year later

“Are you going to stop flirting with the new guy in your life and pay attention to me?”

Laughing, I put down my phone and grinned at the man sitting across the table from me. “Don’t be jealous, Trent. I can’t help that he’s just so adorable.”

Trent smirked. “He gets it from me.”

“Yes, so you’ve said.”

It was the truth, though. Early in my pregnancy, my OB had confirmed that Trent was the likely father since I was several weeks along by the time, she had me in for an initial evaluation.

Of course, no confirmation was needed once Sebastian had been born. Our baby looked like a mini version of Trent, from the eyes to the shape of his mouth.

The server came by and put a dessert down between us, offering a smile before retreating.

This was our first actual date since the baby had been born just under four months ago. Cam was babysitting, with Danny and their little girl ‘helping,’ which was both adorable and terrifying. Having my best friend and babysitter close by was one of the benefits of living in New York City instead of Los Angeles. Trent had said it was much easier for him to work remotely than me, so we moved back into a new apartment close to Central Park with room enough for us all, including a Steinway piano.

I reached for the dessert fork, only to see Trent had already beaten me to it.

“You’re a brave man,” I said. “Coming between a woman and her dessert.”

He smiled and held out a hand.

But there was no fork in it.

There was a red box.

“What’s...”

The rest of the question froze as he slipped from the chair to kneel next to me. Eyes on mine, he opened the box. “Jazz...”

“Oh, man,” I whispered, looking around with a mix of terror and anticipation. He was not doing this here... “What are you doing?”

“I asked Cam if you’d kill me if I did this publicly. She said there was a fifty/fifty chance.” He smiled. “I decided to risk it.”

“Did you, now?” My heart was racing so hard, I could barely breathe, but I couldn’t resist that sexy smile or the eyes that held me captive.

“I did. And I’m willing to bribe you with dessert.”

I burst into laughter and slid out of my seat to kneel in front of him, right in front of the audience we’d picked up, the other diners not even pretending they weren’t watching. Wrapping my arms around his neck, I kissed him, then said, “You haven’t asked me yet.”

“I’m working up to it,” he murmured, pressing his brow to mine. “I love you. I want to spend the rest of my life with you, with our baby. If we’re lucky, maybe we can even have another.”

He kissed me then, soft and slow. “Say you’ll marry me.”

“I’ll marry you, Trent.”

After another kiss, he pulled back from me. To the sound of applause, he slipped the ring onto my left hand, and smiled down at it.

“Another baby, huh?” I asked as he looked back at me. “Sebastian isn’t even walking yet.”

“Well, it’s not like they pop out overnight.”

He rose and offered a hand, helping me to my feet. “Besides, we should practice. Make sure we still remember how to do it...baby-making and all.”

“Oh, like we forgot.” Touching his cheek, I said softly, “I might not be able to have another one. Sebastian was a little bit of a miracle.”

“Both of you are.” He guided me back to the seat, bent to kiss my shoulder, left bare by the halter dress I wore, then straightened and returned to his seat. “And if our family is only the three of us, I’m still the luckiest guy on earth.” He winked. “But I still enjoy practicing. I’m a perfectionist, you know. Open up.”
