I was out the door in less than an hour, and while I waited for my Uber to arrive, I texted Willa to tell her to meet me at the guys’ apartment. From there, we could take another Uber to get to The Hot Spot once I made sure Ben was doing okay.
Somehow, Willa managed to get there before I did. She stood by the entrance, wearing the same outfit as me, just in a different color. She was staring down at her phone, and that smile on her lips told me that she was texting Morris.
“Hey, you hot slut,” I said as I walked across the parking lot to get to her. She looked up and studied me with a grin.
“Look at us…looking as perfect as ever.”
We laughed and hugged each other tightly before heading inside and taking the elevator to the third floor. “What are we doing here, by the way?”
I looked at her and realized I hadn’t told her yet. “Bennett’s sick, and I want to check on him. And Leo called to ask if I could grab something from his closet. We won’t stay long.”
“Have you eaten yet?”
“Dinner? No. You?”
“I had a sandwich. You look a little pale,” she said, sounding worried.
I waved a hand and stepped out of the elevator once we reached the fourth floor. “I’m fine. I had a big lunch. And I had a stressful afternoon. I’ll eat something at the bar.”
“Okay. And what’s wrong with Ben?”
“He has the flu.” I rang the doorbell, hating how Ben now had to get up and walk to the front door. But I couldn’t have asked them for a key earlier. Our relationship might’ve been moving fast, but getting a key to their place was way too early.
The lock turned and the door opened, and Ben stood there in the doorway, looking rather surprised to see us. His expression quickly eased, and a smile tugged at his lips. “Hey, you two.”
“Hi, Ben,” Willa said sweetly. “You don’t look so good.”
Bennett chuckled, his voice low and raspy. He had become hoarser than he was this morning. “I don’t feel so good. I thought you were coming by after the show,” he said, his eyes locking with mine now.
“I told Watson I would come by to check on you. Have you eaten yet?”
“I just ordered another soup. I would’ve gotten something for you as well had I known you two were coming by.”
He needed to stop talking. He sounded bad.
“It’s fine. We’ll have something at The Hot Spot. Do you need anything?”
He shook his head and reached out his hand to touch my shoulder. “Thanks, darling. I’ve got everything I need. You two look gorgeous as always.”
“Thank you.” I smiled and placed my hand on his, squeezing it gently. “Oh! I almost forgot…Leo asked me to grab his police officer vest.”
Ben raised a brow, sighing. “Wouldn’t be surprised if he one day forgets to breathe. Did he tell you where he left it?”
I nodded and passed by him when he stepped aside, and while I went to grab it from Leo’s closet, I heard Willa continue the conversation with Ben.
The vest was next to a pair of cowboy boots, making me wonder if they ever dressed up as cowboys. I went back to the front door with a smirk lingering on my face. “Did you guys ever perform as cowboys?”
“Yes, we still do sometimes. Why?”
“I saw Leo’s boots. I bet you guys look hot as cowboys. You’ll have to dance for me wearing those outfits one day.”
Ben chuckled. “We’ll make it happen.”
With Leo’s vest tucked under my arm, I stood next to Willa again, and looked up at Bennett with smile. “If you do need something, just text me, okay? Otherwise, I’ll see you later tonight.”
“Great. Have fun at the show.” He gave a quick wave and closed the door, and I turned around to look at Willa who was grinning.
“What?”
