“If she was wrong, then where is Becs?”
“I don’t care what story she whipped up to get you to turn on your girlfriend that quickly, but I will remind you that your girl gave you the benefit of the doubt and took you back when Jordon got in between you two before. Funny, that you’re not willing to give the same benefit of the doubt to Becs, and instead you’re taking whatever bullshit Jordan slung your way as the truth when she clearly meant to fuck things up for you by coming here like that tonight.”
Houston made a good point. Plus, he was right earlier, if Becs had noticed Jordan’s car outside, it would explain why she wouldn’t even bother to come up to the door and knock. She would also be angry enough to refuse to call. Why in the hell was I still sitting in my living room, with Jordan lying in her lingerie only a few feet away, when I needed to make things right with my girl? I blew out a frustrated breath because I felt like I was being ripped apart by my girlfriend and best friend. Neither of them wanted me to have the other in my life, and it fucking sucked.
“I’ll fix everything in the morning,” I promised my brother, and myself.
“You’re still an idiot. Good luck fixing things after Becs thinks you spent the night with her,” once more he pointed at Jordan before turning his back on us and the room. “There won’t be any way for you to get around telling her that either, because I have a feeling your supposedly innocent little bestie will make sure she knows, if she doesn’t already. Get that key back, I mean it!”
“Will do,” I called out to his retreating form.
Thirty minutes later, Jordan stretched, and the movement caused her breasts to thrust upward, almost unnaturally, in the air. There was no physical reaction on my part, which is what I wished I could make Becs understand. My cock didn’t even stir at the sight. I didn’t think of her that way anymore, and only barely had before Becs came along. My eyes drifted to her face in time to see the woman yawn before she fluttered her eyes open to meet mine.
“Hey,” she called out to me in a sweet, sleepy tone.
“You need to leave your key on the table and then get your car out of here.”
“So, basically, you’re kicking me out?”
“You weren’t invited to begin with,” I reminded her.
“Since when do we need invites into one another’s lives, Aus?”
“You know why, now it’s time you leave. I have to go straighten things out with Becs and I can’t do that while you’re sitting on my couch damn near naked.”
“If you like what you see, there’s no need for you to go anywhere,” she caressed a finger down her breast as she spoke.
“I don’t like what I see. The wrong woman is sitting in front of me in her bra and panties. It shouldn’t be you. Now, you need to get your ass into that car of yours and get yourself back home because I have places to be.”
“I thought you believed me last night,” Jordan pouted as she sat up and worked her fingers through the long strands of her sleep-mussed hair.
“Well, Houston made a good point while you slept. Becs would have turned away immediately if she saw your car parked here that late, on a night when things didn’t go well for us.”
Jordan laughed.
“What’s so damn funny about that?”
“Vic dropped me off here.”
“Vic?”
“Victoria,” she rolled her eyes as she delivered the name.
“As in, my sister?”
“The very one.”
“Why did my sister drop you off at my apartment?”
“I told you, we both figured out what was going on, and she left it to me to break the news to you.” She trailed a hand down her body to indicate the way she’d dressed. “That’s why I showed up like this, to make sure your night didn’t completely suck.”
If that was true, there was never a car outside my place to scare Becs away. That meant she’d never shown up and didn’t have a reason to worry about what I was up to with Jordan. I grabbed my phone and looked again to see if maybe I’d nodded off and missed an incoming text notification or something. There was still nothing to see. She hadn’t reached out to me at all.
The only reasonable explanation for her silence, was the one Jordan had given me. It was all some elaborate plan to hurt and humiliate me. Well, she’d done damage to my brother too and made him a pawn in her game. Even if everything else had been forgivable, that wasn’t.
“Come on,” I told Jordan as I stood and grabbed my keys off the table.
“Where are we going?”
