“No, you didn’t. When you love someone, you don’t betray them that way. You don’t ask to bring someone else into a relationship when you know - and you knew - that your partner would absolutely not want that. You knew because back when we first got together, and I still had hope that there was such a thing as happy endings, I told you about my past. Maybe that was my mistake. I planted that seed in your mind. Is that what happened? I told you all about Bagger and how he would only have sex with multiple women, and suddenly you wanted to know what that was like.” The guilty look on his face told me I was correct.

“The thing is, if it sounded like a good idea to you when I told you about it, you should have manned up and told me that’s what you wanted, not cheated and tried to get it behind my back anyway. You had to know that inviting me to play too, because you felt guilty, would just backfire on you.”

“You aren’t even going to shed a tear over this or get angry or something?”

“Nope. I’m not. I was never in love with you, Jason. I cared about you, but it was never love. Maybe, somewhere deep down, I already knew the path this would take and kept myself from falling.”

Again, I shrugged my shoulders and watched as he shed tears instead. I tied up and locked my duffle closed, stuffed my keys into my front pocket and slung the bag over my shoulder before picking up my laptop case. It was only then that Jay glanced around and took in everything that was missing as well as all the shit that was still there.

“You’re not taking anything?” He asked, astounded.

“I’m taking what’s mine,” I told him.

“We bought the furniture and stuff together,” he insisted. “Come on, Star, I’d never be that big of a dick. Hell, you should take it all since I was the one to fuck up.”

“I don’t want reminders of you and our time together.” It was really that simple. Did it suck to lose furniture I helped pay for? Yeah, it did. But I knew there would be plenty supplied for me where I was going, so it wasn’t really that big of a loss. Besides, I had plenty of money in the bank thanks to the first man I dated after leaving my MC family behind.

“Star,” he whimpered. I glared up at him because he was still blocking the doorway of the bedroom we’d once shared. “I’m so sorry.”

“Here’s a tip for your future, Jay. By the time you have to say I’m sorry, it’s already too late. Sorry means you already broke the thing, whether it’s an object, a person, or a relationship. You can’t just undo that break with an apology simply because you got caught.”

“Where will you go?”

I thought about the message my uncle left on my phone earlier. “Home.”

“Home? Where is that? I thought this was your home.”

“That’s because you never really cared to get to know me, Jay. If you did, you’d know this was never meant to be my home.” I tipped my head to the side in a quick gesture indicating that he needed to move. “Now, get out of my way. I have to get on the road.”

“This is it? This is really a final goodbye?”

“Yeah,” I huffed, annoyed that he was still carrying on about things when he had been the one sticking his dick in other people.

“I don’t even get a hug, or…?”

I pulled the Glock I kept in my bag out and aimed it at him. “You are seriously pissing me off. Now, get the fuck out of my way before I blow your dirty dick off.”

“Holy fuck, Star!” He yelped and jumped out of the way. “I can’t believe you just held me at gunpoint.”

“I can’t believe I stayed with you this long without realizing what a pussy you were.” I shot back at him before turning down the hall and making my way to the front door. I didn’t turn around and look at my latest ex-boyfriend. Instead, I made my way out the door, slammed it shut behind me, and then tossed my bag into my trusty Beauty. She was the only thing in my life that remained loyal, and honestly, I didn’t give her a whole lot of choice in the matter. I spent a mint on keeping her in the best machinery possible to keep that engine growling and ready to take me where I wanted to go.

That had been another point of contention between Jay and I lately. He was pissed because I would never allow him to drive her. Stupid bastard couldn’t handle the Jeep Wrangler he had, there was no way he would ever get his dick beaters on my Beauty. I took one last look at the place I’d called home for almost a year, and then glanced down at my phone and the text that had been sitting on it since early this morning.

Uncle Mack: Calling in my marker. Aunt Viv needs you; she has cancer.

I peeled out of the parking lot and took off for home.

“Danville, Georgia, here we come! See you soon, Aunt Viv.”

“When are you going to tell Star?”

“Whenever she brings her ass home,” Kip sniped at Ashlynn.

“And you don’t think she’ll get angry about the fact that you waited to let her know?”
