She pushed to her feet, afraid she'd angered him, and he'd leave. "Can we stay in contact then?"
Panic rose in her. She could feel him slipping away.
He was a hard man. But he was her brother.
"You don't know me." He shook his head. "You don't want to know me."
"I do." She stayed by the couch. "I want to know if you're happy. If you're married. If you have children. Do you have a family?"
Ruger walked to the door. Her stomach fell. He'd returned but turned his back on her offer.
She hurried after him and grabbed the back of his vest. "Whatever they did to turn you away from family had nothing to do with me. I don't have a family anymore. You're the only person I have left."
"You want to know me, then know this. I have a daughter that I've fought my whole life to keep. She's the only one who matters to me." He looked into Cora's eyes. "Now I have a little sister."
She gasped.
He shook off her hold and walked out into the storm.
She stared into the darkness and watched the light on his motorcycle come on. The rumble of the engine filtered through the hum of the wind.
He claimed her as his sister. He hadn't rejected her.
Wire pulled her out of the rain and shut the door. She looked up at him and felt safe and happy. Ruger was her last chance at having a piece of her family back. She had no other relatives. And, now, she had a niece, too.
"Babe." He wrapped her in his arms. "You're not alone."
She held on to him tighter. "I'm an aunt. I can't believe it."
"You have me. Your brother, in whatever way he decides to be in your life. A club that will always protect you. Friends you work with." Wire cupped her face and kissed her lips. " Seaglass Cove is trying to tell you this is your home."
"With you?" she whispered.
"Only with me." He placed his forehead on her forehead. "Do you think you can settle down with this old man?"
"I don't even have to think about it." She kissed him. "I love you."
"Love you, too, babe."
Chapter Thirty Seven
THE NEXT MORNING, WIRE kneeled between Cora's legs, caressing the inside of her thighs. She shuddered in anticipation.
Her eyes involuntarily closed. Her breathing came faster.
There was no reason to get out of bed. It was Saturday.
Her nipples constricted into tight, hard nubs. Her excitement for the future led to her arousal. Every day from here on out would be spent loving and being loved by Wire.
He was her man, her love, her happiness, and she couldn't imagine life without him. When she'd set out on her journey, she'd left home without anything.
Upon arriving in Seaglass Cove, she'd found everything she ever wanted. And everything she hadn't known she wanted.
Leaning forward, Wire braced himself on his elbows and spread her legs wider. He swiped his tongue along her slit. The wet warmth was so addictive she arched, stretching underneath him for more. He placed his hand on her lower stomach, holding her in position.
She'd learned over time how much Wire loved touching her. Especially the softness of her belly. All his attention had her looking at herself differently.
All the strength in her melted away. She wanted to wrap around him, touch him, and participate. But she found herself unable to lift her arm. His mouth soothingly spoiled her, turning her into a greedy bystander while he indulged himself.
