"Hell, man." He grinned. "I never was much of a walker."
Maverick snorted. "I hear you."
"Hey, Wire. Hang around," called Jagger.
He slapped Maverick in the stomach. "See you later, brother."
Walking down the side of the table, he approached Prez. "What's up?"
"Albright wants to know who is asking about him." Jagger sat back down and motioned for Wire to sit. "I told him your girlfriend has some business with him." Jagger's gaze narrowed. "And that you were okay with her contacting him."
Wire shrugged. He had no problem letting the world know Cora belonged to him. But he hated playing in Cora's life. She wanted to meet her brother. She deserved to be the one to tell Albright how they were related.
"He asked if she was knocked up and if he was the daddy." Jagger exhaled heavily.
"Jesus."
"He's only been out of the state pen for two years," said Jagger. "I told him no baby was involved, and he agreed to ride to Seaglass Cove in two weeks."
"This is going to blow up her world." Wire whistled low. "Don't get me wrong. She wants and needs this, but she has no idea what she's stepping into. I doubt Jeff's the kind of man who'll come to her with open arms."
"He goes by Ruger now, but it's best if he's the one who wants to share his name with Cora."
"Agreed."
"I've got a past with him." Jagger stroked his beard. "He probably won't stay long because of me."
"Is he scared of you?"
Jagger met his gaze. "Ruger makes Maverick look like a pussy."
Wire looked up at the ceiling. He was afraid of that.
Cora was innocent and sweet. She was still reeling from the hardest thing she'd ever faced, and even though she'd lived through her parents' tragic deaths, she still believed people were good, and no harm would come to her.
He was leery. Deep down, Cora expected to walk into her brother's life and have a sibling who would instantly bond with her and be happy over the news he had a sister.
Cora grew up knowing she had a long-lost brother. Albright left home as a single child. More than a few years had passed. Twenty-five years was a lifetime for some people. More than a lifetime for Cora.
And while he trusted all Havlin Motorcycle Club members with his life. He was hesitant to put Cora in the same room with a patched brother. Especially one with Albright's reputation.
"Two weeks, huh?" he mumbled.
"Yep. We better both be ready." Jagger left the table.
Wire remained sitting. He'd need to warn Cora.
Maybe she would trust him enough not to get her hopes up. He closed his eyes. Look at all she'd done on her own since her parents had died. She had to believe that she'd be okay on her own.
Though he never planned on letting her be truly alone. She had him.
"Hey, you asleep?" said Rush, knocking on the table.
"Nah." He opened his eyes and inhaled deeply, shaking off his problems. "How's the arm?"
"Right as rain, brother." Rush tossed a few boxes of cigars on the table. "These are from Hunter. His old lady is knocked up."
"I didn't know he had it in him." Wire took a cigar and held it to his nose, inhaling deeply. "Good news."
