Emotions clogged her throat. Her imagination had gotten away from her today while she waited for him to return to her.

She'd envisioned the worst happening.

After seeing Rush shot on May 11th, she worried about Wire every time he rode with the club. The only thing that kept her sane was having Daisy and Brooke with her today. She took her cue from them.

While they worried and watched the door, they put up a strong front for Brooke's niece and Dania's daughter. The children needed to have no worries.

Wire's breathing deepened. She caressed his cheek, straightening his whiskers.

"Are you going to fall asleep before the food gets here?" she whispered.

He grunted. "I'm awake."

"What are you thinking." She played with his hair.

He kept his eyes closed. "Just hoping the trouble is behind us now."

She stilled. He'd breached the subject.

She whispered, "It's over?"

"Looks that way, but we'll have to wait and see." He yawned. "There's always something or someone out there."

She frowned. The thought that his life was filled with danger worried her. No one should have to live like that.

"Don't worry, babe." He turned to his side and nuzzled his face against her stomach. "I'll keep you safe."

She studied the lines on his forehead and at the corners of his eyes. He'd lived a hard life. A life she would never understand. Instead of scaring her away, she wanted to show him that there were comforts he was missing out on. Companionship that would please him.

Or maybe she wanted all that for herself.

Wire had shown her a different lifestyle. He'd created a family for himself that was richer than most people who had parents, cousins, and, if they were lucky, grandparents. He had hundreds of men he called brothers.

She judged many things about Wire wrongly on so many levels.

She'd assumed Wire lacked what she'd experienced growing up, and in ways, he probably had more confidence and people in his life to see him through the rough days.

While she had nobody.

That's why she was determined to find her brother. If she could find Jeff and tell him she was family. She was his sister. Maybe he would welcome her into his life, and she wouldn't be alone. She wouldn't have to travel back to California to a silent house filled with only memories and loneliness.

But she wouldn't know if her dreams would come true unless she continued to search for her missing brother.

She had a big lead. She needed to figure out her next step.

A knock startled her. Wire came instantly awake, pulling himself into a sitting position. He moved to the window and looked out. Then, he opened the door.

Chip stood there holding out a large brown bag. Cora rubbed her face. She hadn't even heard the rumble of the motorcycle arriving.

Surprised that she had let herself slip into her head, she stood. They needed to eat and go to sleep. They both needed to recoup after a stressful day.

And somehow, she needed to regain her strength and purpose.

She had a goal.

Jeff was out there, not knowing his parents died or he had a sister.
