He parked in front of the coffee shop. Maverick stepped out and grabbed the purse from him.
He held on, meeting Maverick's gaze, not knowing what he needed to say but wanting to voice his concerns.
"Watch her," he said.
"With my life, brother." Maverick stepped back on the sidewalk.
Wire rode away from the coffee shop to meet Dio. The picture of the guy in Cora's purse had thrown him off. Jagger's warnings came back to him and riled him.
Jagger was concerned Cora was involved with Rush's shooting.
But they'd found out it was Los Li.
Cora couldn't be involved with the Mexican Mafia.
The picture was probably of some old boyfriend. Maybe an old boyfriend who she left when she hit the road.
As long as Cora knew she belonged to him, she could have a whole purse full of photos of old boyfriends.
Dio waved him down. He pulled to a stop behind the clubhouse. They should be on the road.
"What's wrong now?" he snapped.
"Prez called off the ride." Dio walked over to his motorcycle. "I'm riding over to the cross street over on Bluff Road to let the first crew know and then swing by my house for a change of clothes. Go inside and talk to Jagger. He'll fill you in."
He toed his kickstand. His bad mood got worse.
All this fucking around was starting to piss him off. If he wasn't out on the road, actively searching for Los Li, then he might as well stand on the corner and be a fucking target.
He pushed into the clubhouse.
Jagger stood at the end of the meeting table. Rush, Cord, Brett, and Bane sat in the chairs. He approached the group, catching Jagger's attention.
"All rides are canceled." Jagger leaned forward and braced his hands on the table. "I received a message ten minutes ago that Los Li wants to meet with us."
"What the fuck for?" Wire crossed his arms. "This isn't their territory, and yet we're running around, chasing our own asses, and for what? To let them call the shots? I call bullshit."
Jagger sat and leaned back in the chair. "We don't have any other option. If we don't meet, they'll start a war on us. Do you want to give up our standing in Seaglass Cove? They are not our only enemy. If they dig deep enough or find the right opening into Havlin, they could uncover more than we want them to."
"Is this more than Los Li wanting to bring drugs into the territory?" he asked.
He had to know if they were after Cora. She held nothing back about the shooting. Los Li shouldn't be concerned about her going to the cops.
"I guess we'll know when we meet them tomorrow." Jagger met his gaze. "Are you in?"
He dipped his chin. He wouldn't miss the meeting.
"Bane, Maverick, Dio, and Cord will ride with us," said Jagger.
Rush sat forward. "I want in."
"No." Jagger held up his hand. "You're running hot."
Ever since Rush got shot, he'd wanted to go after the man who gunned him down. He wanted to retaliate. While Wire could understand his MC brother's need to settle a score, he backed Jagger's reason for leaving Rush at the clubhouse.
Los Li wasn't an organization to fuck around with.
Jagger looked at each of them in turn, his gaze stern. "We ride at eight o'clock tomorrow morning. Be ready."
