But that wasn't how things worked in her family. Her brother had his version of her parents, and she had a different version.
She had no one to confide in about him. A significant part of her feared that even if she found Jeff, he might reject her as family. She was uncertain how she would handle such a situation.
"My father was sixty years old when I was born. My mom was forty-six." She looked at the other women. "Mom had no idea she was pregnant and thought she was going through menopause."
"I've heard of that happening." Dania shook her head. "I can't even imagine."
"Mom had Jeff when she was twenty years old and then couldn't get pregnant." She shrugged. "So, I was a complete surprise who would forever be called a meno baby."
Brooke rubbed Cora's arm. "But you're looking for your brother? You don't know where he is?"
"No." She swallowed the lump of emotions gathering in her throat. "I've never met him."
Brooke gasped. "Oh, wow."
"He took off when he was eighteen after a disagreement with my parents." She inhaled deeply. "My parents died last year—"
"Oh, my God." Dania hummed in sympathy. "You haven't had it easy."
She blinked back tears. Since embarking on her quest to find her brother, she hadn't stayed in one place long enough to form relationships with other women. That was until she arrived at Seaglass Cove.
Telling her story left her raw.
"If you want, we could put a sign up on the counter. That way, if anyone recognizes him, they can tell you." Dania hugged Cora. "We'll do anything to help you."
"Thank you."
"Absolutely." Brooke hugged her. "You need friends. We're here to do whatever you need."
"That means a lot to me." She sniffed and slipped the picture back into her pocket. "As soon as I can get a copy made of the photo, I'd love the help."
The door opened, and Wire stepped inside, dripping wet. She startled. Caught up in the past, she hadn't paid attention to what was going on outside.
She rushed to him. "You're soaked."
"If you haven't noticed, babe, it's raining out there." He kissed her, chuckling against her lips. "It's closing time. Are you ready to go?"
She swiveled around and looked at the clock on the wall. She'd lost track of time, having shared her life with the others.
"Go ahead and go. I'll shut everything down tonight." Dania took off her apron. "My husband took Mariah to gymnastics, and I have the privilege of going grocery shopping...alone. Lucky me."
Brooke looked out the window. "Maverick was going to come—"
"He's at the clubhouse, talking to Jagger. I told him I'd walk you over," said Wire.
Brooke raised his brows. "He did pick up Skye from school, right?"
"Yep. She's playing Dio in a game of pool." Wire grinned. "Probably kicking his ass."
Brooke laughed. "That'll make her day. She loves Dio."
Cora stepped away from Wire and grabbed her purse from the back. She hadn't brought a coat with her. She was going to be no better than Wire and end up drenched.
Once Brooke was ready, they rushed out the door and ran toward the clubhouse. Rain splattered her face, soaking through her hair and clothes and running down her arms. The need to run faster pushed her forward. She crossed her arms across her chest to keep her breasts from taking a beating.
Wire smacked her ass, grinning. Men. Though a swift thrill swept through her that he found her worth watching.
He would never understand the pain of being a big-breasted woman. Jogging was not her friend.
