Chapter Twenty Four
Bane slid the stack of boxes into the truck bed and shut the tailgate. That was the second load to leave the shop today.
The dip in orders they'd expected to come after the move had never arrived. If anything, they were busier than before moving to Seaglass Cove. He hustled during the day while Daisy was at the pool, but once it turned four o'clock, all his attention went to keeping her safe at home, hoping the fucker would come after her so he could eliminate the problem.
Numerous Havlin members were also looking for the man responsible for the crimes. But without a positive ID, they could only ask questions and look for anything suspicious.
Dio walked out of the back of the building. "Jagger wanted you to know he'd take this load to UPS. You can stay back."
"Good." He tossed the keys to Dio. "Daisy gets off in a half hour."
Everyone allowed him to work around Daisy's schedule. He couldn't wait for the days she was safe, and he could go back into rotation doing security work.
He was getting itchy. Too much time spent indoors and off the road left him anxious to spend more time on the back of his Harley.
"How's the neck?" he asked.
Dio pulled his hair back and turned his head. "Stitches are out."
"That doesn't mean shit."
Dio shrugged. "It's sore. Cord mentioned it would be until the muscles going down into my shoulder heal."
Cord was ex-military. Most Havlin members sought him out when they needed patched up, stitched up, and medicated up.
"Damn lucky," he muttered.
Any closer to his artery, and Dio wouldn't have made it back to the shop on his own. Bane lit a cigarette and stayed outside.
"I've been riding around Seaglass Cove." Dio spit on the ground. "Looking."
Bane grunted. Everyone was looking for who was responsible for the trouble at Daisy's door.
He understood Dio's mission to find the man was stronger than most members because of his injury. But Bane's single drive was to eliminate the threat against his woman.
"If I spot him, I'd know." Dio exhaled loudly. "Fucker didn't even look like the type to put up a fight. I thought he was cutting between the duplex and the neighbor's house to get to the beach—as a lot of people in that neighborhood do, and I was going to let him walk through."
There was nothing to say. In the same situation, he probably would've done the same thing. But not now. Nobody was getting near the duplex or Daisy.
Bane finished the cigarette and tossed it in the bucket filled with sand at the back door. "I'll catch you later."
"Yep." Dio raised his hand.
In the shop, Jagger slammed his fist down on the counter. Bane veered from his path to the door. He'd left his president ten minutes ago, and his mood was fine.
"Problem?" Bane walked over to the counter.
"We have a new contract with Hilton Dealership off Highway 101, and apparently, two cars were jacked sometime between four a.m. and eight a.m. this morning." Jagger ran his hand over his face. "I've already got our men at their limit, but we'll have to add four more hours onto another crew."
Because he protected Daisy and hadn't kept up on running security for the club, Bane felt the pressure. "What can I do?"
"Nothing. Take care of your woman. When that's over, we'll have you back." Jagger met Bane's gaze. "Though, if you can open the shop at seven in the morning, I'll move Link over to the dealership."
