He continued to hold her. She yawned, more exhausted now that the weight was lifted from her. Telling him everything about her past for him to understand was a relief she never expected.
Knowing she hadn't scared him away gave her hope. She found his hands and entwined her fingers with his. "Will you spend the night?"
"Either that, or I get the fucking Sawzall and cut through the wall and make a doorway from my side of the duplex to yours," he grumbled, following her to the bedroom.
Her insides warmed. She had a feeling he'd follow through with that threat, too.
Chapter Fifteen
"Miss Hill." Sierra stood on the lifeguard stand and pointed toward the pool house. "Your manfriend's here."
Daisy turned in the water and searched in front of the boy's locker room doorway, spotting Bane. She waved her hand over her head until he found her in the water.
"He's a friend, Sierra," she said.
"Man. Friend. Manfriend." Sierra grinned. "Just stating the facts."
The teenager wasn't wrong. Who was she to argue over the truth? She and Bane hadn't jumped into discussing the fundamentals and wordage to describe their friendship. She'd grown closer to him than anyone else in her life in such a short time. The speed at which she'd lost her heart to Bane scared her a little.
Loving him wasn't the problem.
Fear of losing him brought out insecurities she needed to deal with sooner or later.
Glancing at the big clock on the wall, she still had an hour left until Liz took over for the adult swim, and she could go home. She ducked under the surface and swam to the other side of the pool—grinning like a fool.
Neil, one of the ten-year-olds, stared through his goggles at her. Even under the water, she couldn't hide her happiness. The kids were probably wondering why she was so happy.
She popped out at the wall and looked up. Bane held out his hands. She clasped his wrists and let him pull her free from the water. Not wanting to get him wet, she smiled up into his sexy face.
"What are you doing here?" She held his hands, needing to touch some part of him.
"Havlin's having a party tonight. I want you there." He let go of her hand and wiped the end of her nose, catching a water droplet.
"Just the bikers will be there?"
He shrugged. "There will be women from the area there."
