"I changed my mind. Just give her my phone number when you get there. I'll tell her what happened," he said.

While they weren't exactly friends, they knew each other. They were neighbors. He knew her well enough to know the news about her duplex would upset her.

Chapter Seven

Liz stormed into the duplex, wild-eyed and determined. Bane stepped out of the way, letting her see Daisy sitting in the chair with a glass of water in her hand.

"Are you okay?" Liz hurried to Daisy's side, leaning over to hug her. "I got to work, and Sierra told me you'd raced out of there because your house had gotten broken into."

"I'm fine." Daisy put the glass on the table and hugged Liz. "I obviously wasn't here when it happened. It's just shocking."

"I bet." Liz gave her friend another hug.

"You're supposed to be working tonight." Daisy stuck out her lower lip. "You didn't have to come over."

"Of course I did. Tara's covering for me." Liz looked around the room. "So much damage. Was anything taken?"

"It doesn't look like it." Daisy shrugged. "They could've taken the television, but instead, they ruined it. I had twenty-four dollars on the kitchen counter to take to work on Monday because Lilibeth was selling Girl Scout cookies. The money is still there."

Liz glared at Bane. "Maybe someone broke in thinking it was the biker's side of the duplex."

"Unlikely," muttered Bane.

Liz's mouth thinned to a straight line, staring at him. Bane let her believe whatever she wanted to believe. The kind of people he associated with wouldn't waste their time making a mess in someone's house. They'd pull a gun and shoot him in the middle of the forehead.

"You called the police, right?" asked Liz.

Daisy inhaled deeply. "Yeah, they took a report and took pictures."

"What about fingerprints?"

Daisy shook her head. "Apparently, that's only done in movies. In Seaglass Cove, they only do that if the crime caused bodily harm to the homeowner. I wasn't home when it happened, and nothing was taken, so it's just a trespassing crime."

"I'm so sorry, Daisy. This must be so scary for you. This is your home." Liz hugged her again before standing. "I'll help you clean up."

"Thanks." Daisy stood and put her hand on her forehead.
