"I'm fine," she whispered. "You don't need to worry about me."

"Well, I do. Especially when I catch Bane walking out of your bedroom."

"That's not true—"

"Why would I lie?" Liz lowered her voice. "Why do you think he moved in beside you? Why was he here for dinner? Why did he buy the old bus barn next to the pool? Have you asked yourself any of those questions?"

"You make it sound like he's out to hurt me." Daisy shook her head. "Alicia, my property manager, did a background check on him. She does it to everyone who lives in the duplex with me. It wasn't just Bane who moved into the building beside the pool. It's his whole motorcycle club. They have a business they're going to run at that location. As for him being in my bedroom, that's absurd."

"Is it?"

"Yes."

"I know how drunk you get every year on that date—"

"Okay. Okay. Enough." Daisy took the burger off the grill, knowing Liz wouldn't eat it with a bun, and handed her friend the meat. "If it makes you happy, I'll ask him if he came into my bedroom."

The whole idea that Bane trespassed in her side of the duplex was ridiculous. There was no reason for the man to come inside without an invitation—and she knew damn well she hadn't asked him or any man into her bed in a long time.

Liz raised her brows, waiting for her to confront Bane. Daisy blew out her breath. She hadn't set out to question Bane tonight, but Liz wouldn't drop the subject.

"Fine. I'll ask him now." She stepped toward the privacy fence, prepared to knock on his back door when a loud rumble vibrated her chest.

She looked out at the ocean before realizing it was the sound of a motorcycle coming from the front of the duplex.

"Well, Bane left, so I'll have to wait." She sat on the chair Bane had used.

Liz cut the meat into pieces with the knife they'd used for the mayo. Daisy crossed her legs and swung her foot back and forth. Bane wouldn't have broken into her place, would he?

She couldn't remember what happened that day—as planned. That was the whole point of drinking herself into oblivion. She wanted to forget what happened on June 7th.

Chapter Six

Jagger poured the paint into the sprayer. Bane rolled the masking tape across the floor to Dio. With everyone working, it'd take less than an hour to prepare the walls for painting.

Once the paint dried, they could organize the parts on the newly constructed shelves. That was a time-consuming job.
