Love wasn't supposed to hurt or hurt other people.

"Nicole?" Priest came into the room. "Get ready to ride out in five minutes. We're all going over to the clubhouse."

"I don't want to go." She pressed her back against the counter. "Can I stay here?"

He frowned and walked to her. "I want you with me."

"Yeah, but you'll be busy with the Tarkio members." She needed to convince him to go. "I'll stay here and cook dinner and have it ready to eat when you return."

He lifted her chin. "I don't give a shit about dinner. I want you with me. There's a party tonight, and we'll be there."

With her heart torn in different directions, she nodded. If nothing else, Priest would be with her and not halfway to California. Now that she knew what he planned; she could pay attention while at the clubhouse. Hopefully, other Tarkio members would talk. Alcohol would flow, and lips would loosen.

She gazed into his eyes, wondering how wrong she could be about someone she was falling in love with. Wishing with everything in her soul that she hadn't heard what he'd planned, that it was all a big mistake. That he wasn't out to ruin her family.

That he could understood the feelings between them was love they shared together.

"Babe?" He kissed her forehead. "What's bothering you?"

She shook her head. It wasn't the right time to talk to him when he needed to go to the clubhouse, and there were Tarkio members in the house.

"Prez?" Curley entered the kitchen. "We're heading out."

Thankful for the interruption, Nicole stepped away from Priest and squeezed past Curley and went to the bedroom to grab her shoes. Priest already sensed that something was wrong. It was going to be almost impossible for her to keep secret that she overheard him talking to the others.
