"Now you do," he whispered back.

"I like hearing that." She inhaled deeply. "I'm so happy."

"Good." He slid his fingers into her hair and massaged her scalp. "Do you want to go inside and have a drink?"

Her eyes went closed, and she moaned. "I don't even want to smell alcohol after the night I had."

"Tough night?" He kept rubbing her head. "Peer never mentioned any problems."

"Only with me." She leaned fully against him. "I spilled beer all down the front of my uniform shirt and had to change, but I don't want to talk about work."

"Then, let's talk about where you're going to spend the night." His hands stilled. "Your house or the clubhouse?"

"My house. I need to take a shower before we go to bed." She laid her head back down on his chest.

He wrapped her in warmth. "Let's go now. You're exhausted."

"Sure?"

"I need to speak with Brage first, and then we can go." He led her to the door.

Inside, she said, "I'll let Coco know I'm leaving and meet you back here."

She skirted the crowd of Slag members filling the main room. Knowing Coco liked to hang out with Elling, Peer, and Rune, she headed toward the kitchen area. Coco spotted her and shouted her name before she'd seen her.

"What's the name of the street that goes by Albertson's across town?" asked Coco.

She held up her hands and shrugged. "Am I supposed to know the answer?"

"I was hoping you would." Coco pointed to the others. "I'm trying to outsmart these guys. They think they know the area better than I do."

"I'm no help on street names." She yawned. "Hey, listen. I'm going to go home. Roar's taking me, so if you plan on staying longer, make sure one of the guys walks with you."

"I'll take her." Rune's lips barely moved, and she looked at him a couple seconds longer than necessary to understand what he had said. Some of the guys had thick accents or threw in a few Norwegian words that went over her head. With their beards, it was easy to not catch what they were saying.

"The hell you will." Elling's brows lowered. "I'll take her home."

"Okay. Well, I'm taking off." She blew a kiss to the group, letting them sort out who would be the lucky winner to walk across the street after the party was over.

Halfway across the room, the door opened, and Brage shouted, "Raid. Everybody, straighten up."

The crowd of men moved in all directions. Jumping out of the way, she pressed against the wall as Slag members ran in front of her.

Glenn shoved a table off to the side of the room, banging into the wall beside her. "Nobody mouth off."

She sidestepped and ran into Monica. "What's happening."

"Raid." Monica pointed over her shoulder as she rushed toward the stairs. "Stay there."

Stay there? She couldn't go anywhere without getting run over.

"Where's Prez?" Joel searched the area.

Where was Roar? She pushed past a group of men, hurrying to the door in hopes that he was there waiting for her.

The tension in the room rubbed off on her. She searched the faces scrambling around. What was a raid? What happened?

The music shut off. Bottles clanking echoed in the building.
