Chapter 4

The front of her uniformstrained, causing a gap between the buttons. Lizzy rounded her shoulders and adjusted her breasts. This was the third style of bra she'd tried on and the best one to wear with the shirt. But it wasn't working.

She needed to minimize, not lift or perk.

If she would've gone up a size in uniform, the shoulders would've been too big causing another set of problems.

"If I make it through the whole shift without breaking out of the shirt, I'll be lucky." Lizzy pulled back her shoulders. "No, this isn't going to work."

Coco turned from the window. "Undo another button. I have three undone on mine."

Lizzy tilted her head and studied the front of Coco's shirt. "It looks obscene on me, though."

"No, it looks normal. You're just blessed with boobs. No reason why you need to hide them."

She blew out her breath. "I'm self-conscious."

"No reason to be." Coco put on a long sweater, covering her whole outfit. "Don't forget to cover up."

"Yes, boss," said Lizzy.

Coco stuck her tongue out. She walked into her room and grabbed a sweater. They'd talked about walking from the house to the bar and decided for safety reasons, they would cover their uniform. Hopefully, no drunk men would follow them home or get a wild idea to knock on their door. They wanted to leave work at the bar and definitely wanted to keep random strangers walking the sidewalk from noticing they lived nearby and figure out their schedule.

While The Fire Ring had been gracious with their outfits, giving them five different ones—one for each day of the week—they were meant to attract attention. Short shorts and form-fitting tops. Nothing she wouldn't wear in the summer at home or at the beach. But, in the environment she would work in, she was underdressed compared to the customers.

"Okay, I'm about as ready as I can be." She grabbed her purse. "I don't know why it still feels like we're walking over to Burger Bistro. We've been inside. Nothing looks the same."

"Coping mechanism." Coco laughed, walking outside.

Lizzy hit the switch on her way out, turning on the outside light, and locked the door. A shadow already covered the front yard as the sun made its descent. She walked with Coco to the corner and used the crosswalk instead of jaywalking.

"We never asked if we should enter from the back or front." Coco stopped on the sidewalk.

"We're early. Let's try the back first." She walked faster, wanting time to settle down before she had to carry drinks and food.

Coco stopped. "Looks like we need to go up to the front door."

Lizzy looked ahead. There was a tall metal gate blocking the alley.

"Maybe we're supposed to go in on the other side of the alley." She walked back toward the front.

"I bet it's closed off, too. We'll just use the front door. If Roar doesn't like that, he can explain how we're supposed to get in the alley." Coco bumped into her. "He can give us the codeword or something."

"Bikers R us," mumbled Lizzy.

Coco laughed, coming to a stop in front of the door. "Let's go woo them with our supreme serving skills."

"You got it, girl." She walked inside.

The flames of the fire in the middle of the room instantly grabbed her attention. She stepped off to the side. There was nobody here yet.

The dim light a contrast to the bright fluorescent tubes that hung from the ceiling when Mr. Reeves owned Burger Bistro. She looked at the front of the room. Tinted privacy film covered the windows facing the sidewalk.

Customers could see out, but those on the outside were blocked from seeing in.

She squinted. Any customer sitting at the tables could view them walking clear up to their house through the window. Of course, they'd leave after the bar closed, but if anyone hung around outside, they'd know where they lived.

"Let's put our stuff away." Lizzy led the way.
