All the signs he gave off pointed at him being attracted to her. Maybe she was confusing him by not being clear enough.
Stepping out of the garage, she met him pushing the mower toward her. She held up a beer.
He took it from her and twisted off the top. "Thanks."
Before he drank, he reached over and removed the cap from her bottle. Her heart pounded. She sipped to keep herself from looking at the sweat trail down his temple.
Licking her upper lip, she dared to glance at him. "I didn't even ask if you came over because of work or...?"
"I saw you open the garage so I thought I'd give you a hand." He widened his stance.
Music came from inside the house. She glanced over her shoulder and then looked at Roar. "Coco's got a date tonight. She's getting ready."
Something flickered in his eyes, and he gazed over at the mower. "What about you?"
"A date?" She shook her head.
"There must be guys at the bar who ask you out."
"Sometimes." She inhaled deeply, trying to slow her racing heart. "That would be awkward, and I don't want to mix my private life with working."
"Ja," he muttered.
She wanted to take that back. It wasn't about him, but customers. She worked her lips together and gazed out at the grass. No, it wouldn't be smart to let her attraction to him go any further than letting him be helpful. In a sense, he was her neighbor.
He'd done a neighborly thing by helping with her outside chore.
"I should probably rake before it gets too hot." She forced a smile. "Thank you for doing the hard work."
"No thanks needed." He backed away and walked to his motorcycle.
She turned to grab the rake, and he called her name. "Yes?"
"Since Coco's going out and you're going to be home alone, why don't you come on over to the clubhouse?" He hitched his thumb over his shoulder. "They'll be a party going. You can have a few drinks, relax, and enjoy yourself. You've met a lot of the Slag members already."
"Oh, I..." She walked toward him before she chickened out. "Yeah, I'd like that. What time?"
He squinted into the sun, shielding his blue eyes. "How about I pick you up around nine?"
"Okay." She caught the pleasure in his eyes as he turned his motorcycle around.
As soon as he rode around the block, she dropped the rake and ran into the house. Coco was going to call her all kinds of a fool, but she was going to the clubhouse. And, she was going with Roar.
