I watch him climb out of my bed and disappear out of the room stark naked. He returns a moment later with a washcloth in his hand. His cock is still semi-hard as he climbs onto the bed. I lie with my legs spread as he cleans me off.
He tosses the washcloth in the direction of my laundry basket and climbs under the covers. I drape myself over him, kissing his chest. We both lie silently and in no time, I feel myself start to drift asleep.
Right before I do, I hear Jasper whisper, “I love you, baby.”

I sip my latté as I walk the aisles of Target, not looking for anything, but just killing time before I meet Sadie and Celeste for lunch. The first section I stop at is books. I read the back of a couple of paperbacks that pique my interest. I’ll have to add them to my forever growing “to be read” pile.
Heading over to the shoe section next, I pass the baby stuff and stop. The baby clothes are so tiny and so cute, from little girl dresses to adorable little boy onesies. I pick up one of the little dresses that is so teeny tiny, I wonder how babies are really ever that small.
I look at all the equipment a baby needs, from walkers to bouncy seats, and bottles and pacifiers. Someday I hope I will be coming back and buying this stuff for my own child. Looking at my phone, I see it’s time to head across the street to Crash Café.
Stepping inside, I look around. I spot Sadie seated at a table and I smile and wave as I make my way toward her. She stands as I approach and pulls me into a hug. “Hi, beautiful,” I say as we continue to hug. “I’ve missed you, but I’m so happy you were able to stay home with this pretty girl.” I smile at the sweet angel in the highchair.
“Well, I have missed you, and it’s definitely been an adjustment, but I’m so glad to be hanging out with you.” She signals who I’m assuming is the waitress.
She leaves us after taking our drink order.
“How are you and Jasper?” She grabs her daughter’s little fist, shaking it while smiling.
That’s such a loaded question. How are we really? Sure, we’ve had sex multiple times, but it still feels like there is this wall between us. “Good, weird, maybe a little confusing.”
The waitress brings our drinks and I order a fried goat cheese salad and she orders a Caeser. We thank her and then she leaves us.
“Do you think he’ll change his mind about having kids?”
I reach out and rub my hand over Celeste’s fuzzy head. “I think he’s really trying hard to want that. He’s definitely thinking about it more.”
“I love you, I love Jasper, and you’re such a perfect couple, but how long are you going to have to wait, putting your dreams on hold for a future he may not be able to give you?”
I’ve asked myself that same question. “I don’t know. I believe in my heart he wants kids, he’s just dealing with his past first.”
“Just be careful, sweetheart. I’d hate for you to get your heart broken.” She grabs my hands from across the table. “I’m here for you if you need me.”
I smile. “I appreciate it.” Smiling at Celeste, she gives me a toothy grin. “Every time I see her, she changes.”
“Yes, she does. My girl’s a crawler now and is starting to get into everything,” Sadie says while pouring yogurt puffs onto the table for Celeste.
Our waitress sets our salads down in front of us and mine looks freaking delicious. We both dig into our food and the rest of lunch is a little awkward, but I’m used to it by now. Everyone who knows us always questions where we’re at in our relationship.
I just want us to be an us again and get a new chapter of our lives.
Chapter Fourteen
Jasper
My alarm goes off and I groan, rolling over. I feel like I’ve been run over by a Mack truck. I wasn’t feeling good yesterday, but I thought maybe it was stress. Pushing myself up a wave of nausea hits me, causing me to bolt into the bathroom.
I’m in the bathroom forever and once I’m completely emptied out. I stumble into the bedroom and grab my phone, letting my partner and office manager know I won’t be in and ask them to reschedule my visits today.
I send Lorelei a text, letting her know I won’t be making our therapy session today. Once that’s done, I collapse back on my bed and promptly pass out.
Knock, knock, knock, I push myself up and look at the time on my phone. Shit, I slept for three hours. Climbing out of bed, I head for the front door. Looking out the peephole, I see it’s Lorelei. I open it and she comes rushing in.
“You shouldn’t be here; I don’t want you getting sick,” I tell her as she carries two grocery bags into my place. She of course ignores me and heads into my little kitchen.
“Are you kidding me right now? You look like death, babe. Let me take care of you.” She comes toward me and places the back of her hand on my forehead. “You’re burning up. Do you think you can eat anything right now?” I shake my head. “Okay, go get back in bed. I’m going to bring you some pain reliever and Gatorade.
