“I’m scared.” That’s the God’s honest truth.
“It’s okay to be scared. Why don’t you just start small? You could meet him for lunch, drive yourself. Maybe meet for coffee a few more times before you take it another step.”
Shrugging my shoulders, I look at her.
Beth squeezes me tightly. “Sweetheart, what happened to you was awful, but you can’t let it hold you back. You have a lot to offer, and it’s a shame you don’t share it with the world. Just think about what I said.” She kisses my forehead. “See you in the morning.”
Chapter Five
Keith
After locking up the house, I peek in on my girls and find that they’re both sound asleep—my little heathens disguised as angels. When I found out both times that we were having girls, I’ll admit I freaked out a bit. I know what happened to my sister when she was six, and I’ve probably been a little overprotective of them, but hearing what my mom and dad went through as they tried to get help for Britain…I didn’t want that for my girls.
I should go down and peek in on my sister, but the whole point of her moving in with us was for her to have privacy without actually living on her own. We love having her here, and the kids love spending time with their aunt. She does a lot of babysitting for us, which we’re grateful for.
When I reach my bedroom, I hear Beth in the bathroom. Stripping down to my boxer briefs, I climb into bed and turn on the TV to ESPN for basketball highlights. My beautiful wife steps out of the bathroom wearing one of my t-shirts that hits her mid-thigh. We’ve been together for ten years, and she still takes my breath away.
“The girls sleeping well?” she asks before climbing in.
She snuggles in next to me and I wrap my arm around her shoulders. “They’re both passed out. What was going on with Brit earlier?”
“She’s met a guy, and today he asked her out. I think it spooked her a little bit, but from everything she said it sounds like he’s really into her.”
“Is it the guy who had his SUV towed to the garage?” She doesn’t even need to answer me because I didn’t miss the way the guy was staring at her that day.
“Yeah, I guess they’ve run into each other a lot. I told her she should go out with him. That she should take it slow. Maybe meet for coffee a few times, then step it up to meeting for lunch or dinner, and then go from there.”
“Why are you encouraging her to go out? She doesn’t need a man—she’s got us.”
Beth pushes up and faces me up on her knees. “Do you hear yourself? You know that’s not healthy. What happened to her when she was little was terrible, but she can’t let that define her. That is not who she is. Don’t you want her to someday get married, and have babies of her own? She deserves to have that as much as the rest of us do. She’s a smart girl and can read the bullshitters real quick.”
I sigh before snatching my wife around the waist, and situating her until she’s straddling me. “You’re right. I know it, but no one is going to be good enough for her.”
Beth wraps her arms around my neck and kisses my lips. “I’m sure that when our girls start to date you’ll be the same way.”
Fuck me. The thought of my precious babies dating makes my stomach turn. I need guns, and maybe a big dog. “I don’t want to talk about that shit.”
“Well maybe this one will be a boy.”
It takes me a second to register what she just said to me. “You’re pregnant?”
She bites her lip and nods. “I know we weren’t really planning on another one, but I found out this morning. You’re not mad, are you?”
My hands slide up her thighs and under her t-shirt. “Fuck no, baby.” With a quick flip, she’s on her back with me looming over her. My hand rests over her flat stomach, and I say a little prayer that this child is healthy, happy, and a boy. “You just made my day. I love you so fucking much.”
“I love you too, baby.” Things are only going to get better—I can feel it.
Chapter Six
Silas
I’m meeting with the design team today to go over last-minute details. A week ago I signed the papers for the property downtown. Now we’re designing the look. I want something fresh, fun, and appealing. Stefan’s got someone designing my new Learn4Fun logo for me because we want to incorporate it with the new design of my office space.
It’s been a week since Britain ran away from me after I asked her out. I’ve thought about stopping by her family’s garage, but something spooked her, and I don’t want to spook her any more than she already is.
I’ve been really itching to play, too, and even went to the club but didn’t participate. It just didn’t feel right, and anytime I think about playing I always see the naturally beautiful blonde tied up and at my mercy, in my head—now my dick is hard. I pull into the parking lot of the design firm, adjusting my cock and willing it to go down.
When it finally does, I climb out of my Porsche and head inside. Both Stefan and Jeremiah are meeting me here to give me their input. If I had board members, they’d both be on it. I value their opinions, and they both invested money in me and my company. Of course I’ve already paid them both back, but they still work to make me successful.
