Chapter 3

Oh God, what had she done?Mel held her body still as both embarrassment and confusion rolled through her. She wanted to blame it on the surge of adrenaline she had felt right after cheating death. Unfortunately, that was only partly true. While the adrenaline accounted for the sloppy kiss she had given him in the beginning, it wore off well before she started fucking a stranger in his car.

Not exactly a stranger, but the asshole from the elevator. Really, couldn’t it have been anyone else? Unfortunately, Mr. Jackass was the first one she had seen after the accident, and that steely blue gaze that had captivated her in the elevator had been her undoing. After cheating death, she wanted to feel alive. After listening to Liv go on and on about Nayo, Mel wanted to feel that deep connection her best friend had found. She wanted to prove to herself that she could be beautiful and desirable too, if only for a little while.

Now that it was over, Mel felt horrible. She had used this man to feel good about her shitty life. She didn’t know his name, didn’t know where he lived or what he liked to drink at the local bar. All she knew was that he could give one amazing fuck.

“That was quite the ride,” he said as he slid his hands down her sides.

This was going to be awkward. It was best just to get on with it. Pull off the band aid, sort to speak. She needed to walk away with what little dignity she had left.

Mel straightened away from his shoulder and pushed her tangled hair from her face. When did it fall out of its twist? God, she must look a mess.

“Yes. Well.” She cleared her throat and returned his hands to his sides. “Sorry about that. I’m not sure what came over me.”

“Whatever it was . . . it was amazing.”

Yeah. Unfortunately, amazing fucks didn’t make up for the fact that he was an arrogant asshole in the elevator. “I don’t normally do things like this.”

He twisted his lips into a half-smile. “I’m glad I was your first.”

First, and last.Oh God, now he was looking at her like he wanted another round. If he started touching her again, she might just give it to him—and Mel didn’t want to do that.

“We didn’t use a condom.” Really, what was she thinking? Normally she went on several dates with her partners and made them get a clean bill of health from a doctor before doing anything sexually. The fact that she had just so carelessly had sex without protection showed just how much the events of this afternoon had affected her.

“There was no need.” He dropped his gaze down to her torn shirt and slid his finger over the upper swell of her breast.

She swatted his hands away. “You seem pretty sure of yourself.”

He raised his brows. “Are you clean?”

She lifted her chin. “Of course.”

“So am I.”

“I’m just supposed to take your word for it, I suppose.”

He twitched his lips as if he was trying to hold in laughter. “I’ll have you know that my job requires me to have regular checkups. I promise you, I’m clear.”

“Can I have that in writing?” She shook her head as he snorted and rolled his eyes. “Never mind. Forget about the diseases I could be carrying thanks to you. I could be pregnant.”

He immediately sobered. “Impossible.”

“Why?”

“I can’t have children.” He flicked open a button with his hand. “Now if you’re done interrogating me . . .”

There was no way someone as young and in shape as him could not have children. “Stop.” She swatted him away as he resumed his assault on her breasts. “I’m trying to think.”

“Let me help you.” He leaned forward and placed a kiss between her breasts.

“Oh God.” Her entire body shivered as she felt his cock thicken in her core. “Again?”

“Again.” He slid his tongue against her skin, causing it to tingle.

Oh hell no.The first time she could brush off as a mistake. The second time… “Stop it.”

“Why?”
