They all laughed and shook their heads. “No, have you?” Mel asked.
“I did. I was bored and depressed and watched most of it one summer. It was okay, but things change. It looks old. It was very much a soap opera, but it wasn’t bad.”
“My last name is Fielding.”
Ava threw back her head, laughing. “That’s awesome. Anyone who knows the show will get it. But I like the name, Melrose Fielding. It’s sharp, dignified.”
Mel smiled. This was fun, and there wasn't the pressure she usually felt in a group of women. These women could eventually be her true friends. She’d never had any girlfriends who talked to her and not at her. She didn’t feel weird or out of place with these women. It was nice.
Chapter 9
Andy liked how easily Mel got along with the rest of the women. The other dates he’d brought around hadn’t been able to mesh with the wives of his friends. But Mel seemed like she’d been friends with these women for years. He liked it.
After he finished with the game of water volleyball, he swam up to Mel, wondering if she would be willing to spend the night with him. He shouldn’t ask. It wouldn’t be right. They hadn’t known each other long enough.
“Hey, darling. Do you need something to eat?” Andy asked.
He could tell Mel was about to say no, but she nodded. “I could eat.”
“Hey, we have leftover burgers in the freezer from last week,” Rory said. She turned to Mel and smiled. “We had a huge picnic.”
Mel flashed a smile. “Leftover burgers would be great.”
“Let Harry and me go grab them.” Rory got out of the pool, and Harry followed her.
Andy moved to sit on the edge of the pool, and Mel moved beside him. Her thigh brushed against his leg, and he glanced down, loving the look of her bikini. He leaned over and kissed her shoulder, his lips lingering for a few seconds. She looked at him with hunger in her eyes.
“I like spending time with you,” Andy said.
Her lips curved up. “Yeah? I like being with you. Your friends are nice.”
“They’re good people.”
“So you’re a SEAL?”
He chuckled. “They told you.”
“No wonder you handled those robbers so easily.”
He shrugged. “It was scary.”
She studied his face and then nodded. He had been scared. With no weapons, he could have easily been taken out. Those guys hadn’t been playing with the C-4 and the guns they had. Whatever they’d hoped to accomplish, they’d been serious. Thank goodness they hadn’t set the charges for the explosives. It could have turned out so much worse.
Harry and Rory came back with food for them. He was thankful Mel devoured her burger and ate some chips, too. He’d been worried when she hadn’t eaten much pizza, but with the burger in her belly, he felt better.
Close to seven, they left. She hugged each of the women like they were long-lost friends. He had a good feeling about this one. He planned on taking her back to pick up her car and then watch her leave. But when she entered his house, somehow, she ended up in his arms. The kiss was electrifying. His body shook with need.
She pulled off her t-shirt and then pulled at the strings on her bikini. Her bare breasts were so beautiful, he dropped to his knees and kissed her belly, then pulled her close and sucked on one nipple, then the other.
Her fingers in his hair sent shivers over him. He gasped when she pulled his hair. He leaned back and met her gaze.
“I want to feel all of you,” Mel said.
“All?”
“Yes. I want to be in your bed and wrapped in your arms.”
Andy stepped back, not wanting to push her. “Are you sure? I don’t want to take advantage of you.”
