During my games to see Ronnie.
Future Wife:
I’m just a little overwhelmed since
I made the appointment.
Give me a few more days.
Dom:
You shouldn’t be dealing with this on your own.
Future Wife:
I’m not. I have Ronnie and your notes.
Dom:
You get two more days. I’m not leaving for this road trip without seeing you.
Chapter 30

The clack of nails on the wood floor speed towards me when I step inside Dom’s front door. “What have you got for me today, Ronnie-girl?” Coarse fur brushes my legs while my favorite companion circles my feet, only plopping her butt on my foot after three spins in each direction. Big brown eyes look up at me expectantly, waiting for me to remove the note from the tiny pocket sewn into the firework print bandana she’s wearing.
Only Dom would turn his dog into the world’s most adorable carrier pigeon, tucking sweet notes into a handmade dog accessory that I’m sure one of his bingo ladies made for him.
“Those shorts you wore yesterday. So hot!!! Do me a favor and make sure you bend over in front of the dog cam again so I can tell you which I like better. I hope you’re ready for me tomorrow, Baby, because I’m not waiting four more days to see you.”
“Don’t look at me like that,” I say, when my snort has Ronnie tilting her head. “Your dad is a fool.” Some of the notes have been filled with sweet concern, or dirty promises, but all of them are a reminder that he’s here for me.
Walking through the living room, I pause, Ronnie’s toys are spread out on the ground in an “X” right in front of the camera.
“An absolute fool,” I repeat, before I bend down, picking up her favorite ball from the center and standing. “Let’s go girl.” I look over my shoulder and give the camera a little smile before I straighten. My belt bag vibrates against my hip and my hand digs for my phone. I can’t stop the grin that spreads so wide it makes my cheeks hurt.
