Following her was equally amusing and concerning. Her obliviousness to my presence made my shoulders tense. This was exactly why I told her not to leave without me or somebody else to watch out for her. Just because Steffen was dead, didn’t mean the threat was gone. Plenty of people wanted to take his place and would do anything to get it. Luna was going to learn tonight not to go against me again.
I slip the mask in place as she stops, and watch her in the frigid stillness. She balances an empty bottle on a branch and takes a few timid steps back. I lean against a tree, earning an annoyed hoot from an owl further up in the web of branches above us. Luna jumps and I can feel my excitement build.
She holds her head high, straightens her shoulders and takes aim. I reach up, gripping a slim branch and wait. Just as she’s about to shoot, I yank hard. The branch snaps, echoing through the woods along the sound of the gunshot. Luna’s shot misses the target and she spins around. Her eyes pass the tree I’m standing behind, her fear obvious in the panted breaths that puff around her shivering lips.
Luna gives up, turning back to her target but she’s looking around her, not focusing on her original task. I wait until she begins muttering to herself before stepping from my hiding spot and creeping up behind her.
When I’m close enough to smell her perfume, I reach around and slap the gun from her hand and wrap my palm around her mouth to yank her back against my body. Fear takes over and she thrashes, screaming and cursing against my hand, but I hold tight, dragging her further into the trees.
Luna reaches up, trying to claw at my face. Once her nails rake down my mask, her moves falter as realization dawns. I stop dragging her, sliding my hand down to lock on her neck, tilting her head back to look up at me.
“Think you can sneak off and get away with it?” I say, my voice muffled. Her eyes are wide, shimmering under the scarce glow of the moon. She shakes her head, opening her mouth before I squeeze her throat once.
“Don’t lie to me, Luna.”
“I just wanted to practice.” She whispers, her voice husky as she presses her ass against me. I shake my head once, leaning forward until I was next to her ear.
“You’re in trouble, my Luna.” I say, twisting her to throw her over my shoulder and walk back towards the house.
“Jared!” she groans, her fists slamming into my back. I roll my eyes, jostling her more than I need to, just to hear her squeal.
As I walk closer to the house, I frown at the sight of Markus staring at us from the front porch.
“You guys are kinky.” He says, giving me a thumbs up while hitting a cigarette. I choose to ignore him, but still have to walk past unless I want to climb through a window.
“Markus, help me! Do something.” Luna demands. He just snorts a laugh, opening the front door for me to pass through.
“Isabelle just drained the last of mine and Alec’s energy. You’re on your own, kid.” He says, yawning before flicking his cigarette. “Keep it down, you animals.” He snickers as I step through my door, shutting it and turning the alarm back on.
I set Luna on her feet, pulling my mask off and brushing past her to head to bed.
Chapter 35- Luna
Jared throws his clothes to the floor, leaving just his boxers as he climbs into the bed, still ignoring me. I was cold, not just from the night air. I was standing in the doorway, unsure of what to do or say as I step into the room.
“I just wanted to work on my aim.” My tone is defensive as I strip my clothes off. Jared had left me standing there, painfully horny and confused.
“You put yourself in danger.”
“I had a gun.”
“Look how well that worked out for you.” He snorts, turning his back to me as I climb into bed in just a bra and panties.
“So the mask and man handling me was you punishing me?” I ask.
“No.”
“Use your big boy words!” I snap. Jared rolls towards me, his body pinning mine to the bed as he uses his knee to press between my legs. His left arm presses into the mattress beside my head while his right hand grips my hip.
“You don’t listen. Time and time again you put yourself in danger. I want to fuck you and throttle you simultaneously.” He snarls the words, dipping his head to bite the tender skin on my neck while I whimper under his touch. I shamelessly grind against his knee, desperate for more.
“I’m sorry.” I say, my voice breathy. He chuckles, trailing kisses over my neck and down to my collarbone. Jared pulls his knee away, dipping his hand inside my panties and brushing his fingers over my clit.
“So am I.” He says the words so quietly my ears strained to hear him. Suddenly, Jared’s warm presence is gone as he pulls away, turning his back to me and throwing the blanket over his shoulder as he settles in. My cheeks burn as I lay there, needy for his touch.
“Fuck you.” I hiss, yanking the blankets as I turn away and wrap my arms around myself. His idea of punishment was torture by edging.
The cold winter air didn’t do much to settle my mood. Especially after I woke up to Jared already dressed and gone, with a scribbled note saying the alarm was disabled. It felt a little like he had finished pulling away and that everything I thought was within reach, wasn’t. A snowball bursts on the side of my face, the icy cold making the sting more painful as I crouch behind the tree. It pulls me from my thoughts as I swipe my face with a groan.
