“You like when I suck from you.” She says, peering up at me with those big blue eyes I find myself sinking into. Dropping the reading tablet and my mug onto the table, I twist and pin her body between me and the couch. The lingerie set pulls down, her right nipple popping free from the fabric while my teeth hover just inches away. My resolve to stay away is melting like snow in my hands.

“Tell me to stop.” I plead with her, knowing that will be the only way I can walk away. Luna cups my jaw, tilting my face to lock eyes with her. Her lips slowly curl as her fingers wind into my hair. She gives one solid yank and I crumble in her palms. My mouth descends on her nipple, clamping down as I suck a soft, breathy moan from her.

I grip the weak fabric, ripping her skimpy lingerie to pieces as I toss it to the floor. Her skin raises with goosebumps under my fingers as she shivers and I stop, frowning down at her. Pulling my sweatshirt off over my head, I pull it over Luna’s and help her put her arms through the huge sleeves.

“Jared?” She says my name, and it kills me to hear the fear in her voice. She faced a burning hotel to save my niece, a room full of men with guns, and there wasn’t an ounce of fear. But she was afraid of me, walking away. I did this, instilled this fear of heartbreak.

“You’re going to freeze to death.” I say, walking up to the thermostat on the wall and punching the code in, cranking the heat up while shutting every window. I pull the sheets and comforter from the dryer before walking back into the living room and dropping them on the floor. Luna dives into the still warm bundle with a giggle, glaring at me from where she cocoons in the heat.

“You liar.” She grumbles, sticking her middle finger up. I drop to my knees, grabbing her exposed ankle and yanking her from the fluffy gray pile as she squeals and claws at the fabric.

“It’s too cold out there!” She cries, laughing when I drop her foot and throw the covers over both of us when I crawl on top of her.

“Lunatic.” I say softly, my lips brushing hers in the darkness.

“Warm me up?” She whispers back, her tongue poking out to tease my lips. Our mouths crush together. Her mouth opens as my tongue delves between her lips and my hand yanks the shirt over her head. The building tension bursts between us like a dam, my fingers curling between her thighs as I push them inside her. Luna gasps against my mouth when I circle her clit with my thumb, pushing harder and faster until she is trembling beneath me.

“Jared, please.” She begs, her hands clawing at the waistband of my pants. I push them down, kicking them off and out from under the blankets as I grip my cock, pressing the hard tip against her wet heat. Part of me wants to take my time, to worship her body the way it deserves, but the sound of her begging is too much to bear. I can’t see her clearly under the blanket, but I can feel her eyes locked on me as I push slowly inside of her.

Luna arches her back, her breath picking up the pace when my hips press against her thighs. I brace myself on my right elbow, sliding my hand under her to grip her shoulder while holding her thigh with my left hand. My thrusts start slowly, building until I’m fucking her rough against the floor. Her cries of pleasure fill the surrounding space, getting louder until her body arches, her orgasm drawing my name from her lips.

My pace is erratic until I cling to her, pressing our bodies together as I fill her with my release. Luna hums happily under me, her panted breath chilling the sheen of sweat on my skin as I nuzzle my face into her hair. She wraps her arms around my neck and legs around my waist.

“I feel like a koala.” She whispers, and I shake my head as I grin. Standing and dragging a blanket with us, I carry Luna back to my bed and climb onto the bare mattress.

“We should make the bed.” She says sleepily, a yawn following her words. I just grunt, wrapping the blanket around us in a cocoon and fitting her tightly against my chest. I want to stay here, safe and warm, with her. Things would change, shift between us in the morning. Fear of putting her life in danger will claw its way back into my heart, but tonight I’ll hold her and savor this feeling.

She is tense. I can feel her jaw working as she bites her lip. I reach up, using my thumb to pull her lip free from the torture and cup her jaw to tilt her head up.

“I love you.” Luna says. It’s not a declaration of happiness, but a sad admission that borders regret. A warm, wet tear trickles down my hand as she relaxes in my embrace. Every moment we spend together breaks her heart a little more. I can’t keep doing this to us.

Chapter 34- Luna

Each day for the past week we play this game, Jared telling me I shouldn’t be putting my life in danger and me doing it, anyway. Then at night we lay awake until one of us caves in, turning to curl into the other person for comfort. We are both pushing, seeing who will break first. What he doesn’t know is that I have broken. I glance over at his sleeping form, his eyebrows creased as he dreams.

I slip from the bed, pulling on a pair of pants before creeping over to his nightstand. I take his gun, sliding it into my waistband. He confiscated my gun before bed, assuming it would stop me from working as a guard for the Barone’s. But I was restless and not above borrowing his. I stepped from the room, shutting the door as silently as I could before shoving my feet into boots and throwing a coat on.

“Shit.” I groan, remembering he had installed an alarm on the door, and I didn’t know the code. This was exactly what he was trying to prevent, telling me I wasn’t to leave the house without backup. As if he has any right to tell me what to do, I think bitterly and turn to the window. An idea dawns and I jog to the kitchen and back, biting my lip while debating on how likely this is to work.

Jamming the simple black fridge magnet to the alarm sensor, I don’t let myself hesitate and wrench the window open while sliding the magnet into place.

My eyes clenched tight, holding my breath, and I heard the blaring silence around me. No alarm, just the soft wind outside. I blew out a breath, climbing through the window and promptly falling into the snow on my ass with a grunt. I shook myself off, pulling the window shut behind me before scampering into the woods with a giggle.

I pulled Jared’s empty beer bottle from my pocket, balancing it on a limb once I had gone deep enough into the woods. An owl hooting makes me jump, groaning to myself.

“Keep it together, Luna. It’s just you out here.” I say to myself, shaking away my nerves. I lift the gun and peer down the barrel, taking a deep breath. Just as my finger presses to the trigger, a twig snaps behind me and my arms jerk, the shot missing the bottle entirely.

Spinning around, my eyes scan the mostly dark trees, looking for anything out of place. After a few minutes, I give up, reminding myself there are animals out here and I’m just paranoid. The feeling of being watched was clinging to my skin, making the hairs on my neck stand up.

I shake it off, taking aim once again and determined to get better at this.

Until a hand clamps around my mouth, the other one knocking the gun from my hand as I’m dragged backwards.

Jared

Watching Luna take my gun and creep from the room was an amusing sight. Curiosity gripped me as I waited, opening the door just enough to peer through. Luna scurried back from the kitchen with a magnet in her hand as she stopped at a window. I nearly burst into laughter once I realized her plan. Using my phone, I disable the alarm just before she stuck the magnet in place and wrenched the window open with her eyes clenched shut.

Her small victory dive through the window was sloppy, ungraceful, and fucking cute when she landed on her ass. I waited as she pulled the window shut and stomped off towards the woods, her footsteps leaving obvious tracks for me to follow. I was more prepared than she was, pulling a hoodie on and snatching my mask before opening the same window Luna snuck out of.
