It made her heart skip.
“I love you,” he whispered as his lips were so close to hers.
“I know. I love you too, Jax.”
Taking his hand, she led him toward her door. When it was unlocked, she led him upstairs to her apartment.
It was modestly furnished. In fact, it pretty much looked like her other hidey-hole—the one they’d almost died in.
No shock there.
Aly was a creature of habit.
That was something he’d learned about her over the weeks they’d been together.
When she turned, he held her pressed to his body. That way, he could stare deep into her eyes.
Oh, and he did.
In them, he saw love.
Yeah, this was the woman he wanted to spend the rest of his life with because she was special.
She was meant to be his.
Only, before he could go there, Aly kissed him, and there was no freaking way he was stopping that.
Hell.
No.
She found his mouth because she wanted to make amends. The last thing she wanted was for this man to hurt because of her.
It wasn’t his fault she had trauma and damage.
What she needed to learn was that he’d never hurt her. He’d love her forever, and that was exactly what a broken soul like her needed.
He was the only person who could save her.
As she deepened the kiss, they both stopped thinking about anything but the moment they were going to share.
It was precious.
It was important.
He broke the kiss and stared into her eyes and there, he saw so much love.
“Don’t leave me again, Aly. I don’t like playing this game. Either be with me, or set me free. I can’t feel this emptiness and fear. It eats away at me. It scares me to the point I feel like I’m falling.”
She appreciated his honesty.
“I’m sorry I made you feel that way, Jax. I really am. I don’t know why I’m broken like this. All I know is that I want to be who you need. I’m trying. I swear I’m trying.”
He believed her.
“I’ve told you this once before, Aly. Please don’t leave me behind, Aly. I love you so much. I’ll follow you if you let me. I’ll do anything you want but love me enough that you take me with you.”
She remembered him giving her those exact words before. It still staggered her that he’d forgo the life he had in Boston and follow her.
