They ate dessert.

“Want to take a walk?” he asked. “It’s almost the spooky season in Salem. The streets are lit up, and there’s magick in the air.”

She smiled.

“I think I’d love to take a spooky walk with you through the streets.”

For that, he was grateful.

She was meeting him halfway.

That was all he could ask for from her.

When the check came, he paid, not letting her despite what he had said earlier. If she wanted a caveman, well…

She was getting one.

Hand-in-hand, they left the restaurant, and they walked down the street. They blended in, even if that was a completely crazy thing.

Why?

They each had more guns on them than should be legal. The tourists were mingling with killers and didn’t even know it.

At one of the outdoor vendors, he bought her hot chocolate, since he knew she had a sweet tooth.

Together, they enjoyed the lights, the sounds, and the people.

The night went by so fast as they walked around, hand-in-hand, just being a couple.

Before they knew it, the town was slowing down, and they needed to get back to her place to call it a night. All in all, the evening was ending better than it had begun.

Heading to her hidey-hole, she stopped in front of the storefront across from her place.

“It looks magical in there,” she admitted.

He grinned.

“Well, with a name like ‘Enchanted Jewels’, it pretty much has to be.”

She laughed.

“Good point.”

He was curious.

“What do you see that you like?” he asked, making a mental note. Christmas would be different this year. They’d be with the Crofts, and they’d have a whole experience. He had presents to buy, and he also wanted to make sure he’d chosen her ring well.

She shrugged.

“I’m not a diamond person. I like rubies. They flash fire and are spectacular.”

He said nothing.

When she turned, he instead found her mouth with his, and kissed her under that streetlamp in the middle of the Salem street.

It was sweet.

His hand slipped into her hair, the fake hair, and he kissed her with love and tenderness.
