“How?” she asked, knowing he’d understand that she was curious about how he found her.
“Your credit card chip is a tracker.”
She actually laughed and then sipped her wine.
“You’re getting trickier.”
Jax was honest.
“Well, someone keeps running, so I’m having to change it up. You would have checked your car, you wouldn’t have checked your wallet.”
He wasn’t wrong.
“Where is your B and B?” she asked, as she ate some lasagna.
“I lied. I didn’t rent one. I assumed I’d be staying with my girlfriend. I’ll get one later after dinner.”
She knew what she needed to do.
“Don’t. You need to stay with me.”
He ate some alfredo.
“Why?”
“Because I love you. You took the time to follow me and want to protect me.”
He wanted to be perfectly clear.
“You don’t have to let me, Aly. I’m not going to force myself on you.”
“I wish you would. I happen to enjoy when you’re a caveman. That Croft shit grows on you like mold.”
He laughed.
“Be careful what you ask for.”
Oh, she was, and she wanted him. Greyson was right. Jax was a good man. He’d ordered her food, and he’d taken the chance she’d show up.
He did know her.
They ate their pasta, and when it was time for dessert, he let her order.
Why?
Aly was predictable. She also had a tapeworm and could outeat him any day of the week. She chose the cheesecake, and he wasn’t shocked.
When it was placed on the table, she handed him a fork. It looked like they were sharing.
“I love cheesecake.”
He fed her the first bite.
“I mean, it’s cheese so…”
On that, she agreed.
“Good point.”
