It.

“Can you imagine being a knight or living in a castle like this all of those years ago?”

“I can with the warrior part. Knights, soldiers…they are really the same thing. The shortened life span and disease is a no go for me. Plus, I’m sure they stoned the gays back then. That’s not how I want to go out.”

That made Ian laugh.

He was probably right.

“Still, so much happened here. You can feel it behind the walls. Aren’t you curious about it?”

He only had to ask one question.

“Were there guns in fifteen ninety-three?” he inquired, asking that before he gave an answer.

Ian shared what he knew.

“Officially? No. That would be Mr. Gatling in the eighteen hundreds, but I think I read somewhere that China had a weapon that was similar well before that. They mostly used swords.”

Well, then, there was his answer.

“No guns, so that’s a no go for me. I’m a modern weapons kind of guy. I’ll pass on the mace, swords, and spears.”

“They had arrows. They can do damage at a long range.”

Gryphen stared at him.

Uh, yeah, still a no.

“No offence, my hot, almost-archery-Olympian, but if I’m getting charged at by a bear, or mace swinging enemy, I want a gun. The only quiver I want is in my enemies knees.”

He snorted.

“Spoken like a soldier.”

Well, that was who he was.

To his core.

With a gun, he could keep the people he loved safe, and that was always the bottom line.

Since Ian was definitely getting into this, they wandered a little more, and when they came to the very bottom, there was very little along the way of light.

“Oh, look. Outdated wiring. Callen has his work cut out for him,” Gryphen said, as the one lightbulb hanging from the ceiling swung in a breeze.

Gryphen didn’t feel any wind around him, but castles were drafty, right?

When he breathed out, a puff of condensed air came from his mouth.

“Did it suddenly get chilly?” he asked, looking around.

Yes, yes, it did.

“I think so,” Ian admitted, scanning the area. “What is this room?” he asked.

When Gryphen pulled out his phone, and turned on the light, they could see more of the things in the shadow.

In this case, that might not have been the best plan of action.
