SO DEAD, she signed.

Again, they stared around the room.

“Duncan didn’t want to be married to her for some reason, and the running bet is he’d moved on.”

She had to ask, and the man was so excited.

“Really?” she asked, loving a good mystery herself. “Was it definitely another woman?”

He wished he knew.

“We don’t know yet, but we know she died shortly after.”

“Childbirth? The plague? A husband or two that don’t know when not to buy crazy shit?” she asked, staring at them and giving them the look.

“I don’t know yet, but I’m going to get to the bottom of it. She’s not in her crypt, so maybe that’s why she’s pissed. Do you think she wants to be back here? Buried by her ex-husband? The father of her children?”

“Well, you should find out. It sounds like you’re busy.”

“There are pages everywhere. Apparently, the construction stirred her up. Gryphen doesn’t think we’ll have time to figure out the whole mystery, so you might have to wrap it up. I’ll get as much done as I can.”

Yeah, she wasn’t solving this one.

Someone else would have to take this one for the team. Elizabeth was not tangling with a dead, angry woman who was hurt by her husband before she died.

Pass.

“Is she a friendly ghost? Because the last thing that I need is you coming back possessed or pregnant.”

He snorted.

“I think we’re good. I left my ovaries in your desk. That’s the smell—in case you were wondering.”

God.

She missed the nut.

“Well, find out what you can. I want her to be at peace for when I have to show up there.”

He was curious.

“So, tell me about this ghost named Trey. Gryphen brought it up, and I’m intrigued.”

She paused.

“You tell that Marine that I’m going to make him fear the dead, the living, and me if he keeps telling tales. Let’s not say that name one more time. He will manifest.”

Ian didn’t understand that.

But if she said so.

“It sounds like a nice castle despite the bodies in the basement, which is on par with my existence, so I understand why Callen and Chris didn’t notice.”

Ian laughed.

“It’s gorgeous. The Master’s suite, and yeah, that’s the name of it…well, it’s amazing. You have stables with horses, and sheep.”

“Any dogs?”
