Julian shared his energy. She’d traveled a long distance to get to him, and he didn’t mind.

“She’ll be okay,” he said, trying to reassure her.

And Bodhi.

Who also looked scared and like he was moments from a meltdown over his fiancée being in lockup.

Unfortunately, Julian was accustomed to Tori and this kind of thing.

On top of that, the man was still adjusting to the dead. That was crystal clear.

When Bethany was done, she continued.

“THE. COP. IS. HOLDING. THEM. UNTIL. MORNING. TO. QUESTION. THEM. THERE. ARE. MORE. BODIES. JULES. THE. COP. IS. A. NIGHTMARE.”

He knew what that meant.

“Why didn’t she ask for an attorney?” he asked.

“HE. WAS. BEING. SPITEFUL. HE. WANTS. THEM. TO. PAY. FOR. THIS. KILLING. HE. DOESN’T. CARE. WHO. DID. IT. HE. HATES. WOMEN.”

Bodhi heard that and stood up.

“What?” he asked. “A cop has locked up my fiancée and all they did was find a body? He’s looking for a scape goat?”

Oh, he knew what that felt like.

Been there.

Done that.

Only, he didn’t find the bodies. Supposedly, he left the bodies. It was a good thing Lucian was on his way.

Julian got it now.

“This cop is going to be a problem. Tori is going to want to stay there and work this. I know her. She gets poked and likes to prove a point. His ass…it’s grass.”

Bodhi was glad.

They heard the familiar sportscar come screaming down the street, and they knew who it would be.

Lucian was here.

Julian went to the window, and as the gate opened to their yard, Lucian didn’t slow down. Instead, he came running through the door.

He was in pajama bottoms, a t-shirt, and slippers. Someone had been asleep.

“What the hell?” he asked. “Trey just woke me up, told me it was an emergency, and to get here. What’s going on?” he asked. “Are you guys okay?”

Oh, well, they were.

His wife…not so much.

Julian told him.

All.

Of.
